Property Ratings at 555 Ovington Ave
I normally don't write reviews, but after reading one of the reviews below I am compelled to do so as I feel it was a rather biased opinion. We've lived in the building for more than 10 years. The people here are diverse and friendly. The Super and Porter are kind, polite and helpful. The best part of my day is walking through the gated tunnel that leads into the shared courtyard. Its even better during the holidays when the Super decorates the courtyard with lights and holiday decorations. This is a pre-war building with all the architectural charm and infrastructure challenges that you would expect with a building this old. Considering the age of the building, the current Super has done an excellent job learning the nuances of maintaining the building. The building has old plumbing, old electrical, and old walls. In order to maintain the building the Super often has to hunt down specialty / non-standard parts and find work around solutions that are unique to individual units. To make it harder on the Super, parts that are standard across units, tend to have the same shelf-life which means that when something breaks for one unit, it breaks for everyone else soon after inundating him with service calls. In the last year alone, I've had 2 major plumbing requests (toilet and bathroom sink) and 1 window repair request, all of which were responded to within hours and completed in the same day. The personal attacks against the Super in the one review that caught my attention are also unwarranted in my opinion. It has been my experience and the experience of most of my neighbors that the Super is friendly and responsive. Unfortunately, the expectations of some tenants is unrealistic. While at least one individual who I have spoken with (and suspect authored the negative review) has a personal vendetta against the Super that pre-dates his time working as the Super. The Super isn't a daily miracle worker, but maintaining this building means he regularly pulls off his shares of miracles. My experience is that if you treat people with decency and professionalism they will often respond in kind. The Super has consistently shown me that he is a decent human being, a professional and someone willing to do more when he can. I encourage anyone reading these reviews to trust their instincts to help identify which reviews were written by individuals with too much time on their hands.
I’ve lived in this little gem of a quiet friendly sweet oasis in NYC for over 10 years. 8 years after living in a one bedroom, I moved into a two bedroom in this same building because I like the vibe of the whole place. A wonderful melting pot of everyone. The super is wonderful, and keeps an eye out for everyone. The landlord very accomidating in my experience.
I have called 555 my home for over 10 years. One of the reasons I have stayed is due to the fact that I have had a positive experience living here. The supers have always been supportive and the neighbors for the most part are quiet and friendly. The management will not tolerate any loud or obtrusive tenants, which is a wonderful thing. The laundry room and garbage room are always clean.
I have lived at 555 ovington for several years and it has been a very positive experience. I have a great relationship with the current super, he is always helpful and responsive. Last winter he even went above and beyond by helping me dig my car out of the snow when it got stuck. Any issues I have had since I have been here (which are very few), have been responded to quickly and efficiently. The property is well kept, quiet and friendly. As a woman, I feel safe living and being here.
I moved in from out of state a little over a month ago. The apartment was clean and everything was in working order. The laundry and trash facilities are always very well maintained. The building super has been very friendly and responsive. He went above and beyond any reasonable expectations and made the entire move in process as easy as possible. With my experience so far, I would highly recommend this building.
My wife and I moved in 3 years ago and have had no problems and a great relationship with the super. I don’t know what the bad review is all about but it sounds like a personal issue. Anytime we had a problem, it was fixed with no problems. The trash room and laundry room is always clean; the sidewalks are always salted before snow fall; and the lights are always operating. Most of the neighbors are polite and warm. My wife and I are very happy here and we are very lucky to have found this place.
I’ve lived here for several years. It’s a good building to live in. It’s kept clean and safe and has security cameras in the front. The Porter cleans every day and the Super responds quickly when you need something fixed. Both are helpful, pleasant and hardworking. The building is managed well and it’s a nice and safe place to live.
This apartment complex has great people living in it. Before 2015, this place was great. The lawns were kept up. The super was the perfect person. Now, things have changed. The supervisor is really bad-anyone can tell you stories. Furthermore, the management is bad. Most of the time, if you live here, you're left alone and things are fine. Its when there are problems that issues arise. Recently, we have had package and mail thefts in the all lobbies of each building. Some neighbors reached out to management about installing cameras in the lobbies. Do you know what they said? "package theft is not our responsibility". yup..Safety must not be a priority for this building management. The neighbors are taking it upon themselves to help each other out, but dont depend on management to keep you and your belongings safe. AND I highly doubt the super will accept packages for you while youre out. Hes not the neighborly kind of man...
Ive lived here for a few years now. The management company is not great-but what apartment building company is. You want to talk to the apartment owner/manager? forget it. They wont talk to you no matter what. The secretary/office assistant is the only one you will get a reply from. However, the current super is absolutely terrible. He has an attitude problem and which is even worse-he knows NOTHING about handy work. He flooded my neighbor's apartment while fixing a simple leak in the toilet. The communal washing machines stayed broken for months and months. The front gate stayed broken for weeks. Why? He had to call in help because he couldnt fix these things. If you need a nail put in the wall-im sure he is great. For real, legit handy work-not this guy. And he isnt the kind of guy who will do you any kind of favors...terrible man for this Super position. And he gives me the impression that he is lazy. The "courtyard" is so overgrown that I wouldnt be surprised if mice/rats lived in there. There was a robbery here recently. It could have been prevented with security cameras..but they wont install them even though the residents have shown a big interest in getting these. The space of the apartment is nice. The neighbors are mostly good. The bad part is mainly the super.
