Neighborhood - Hyde Park
This hip and popular South Side community features many apartments and rental houses that are surprisingly affordable -- great news for students (as well as faculty and staff) at the University of Chicago, whose campus dominates much of the neighborhood’s west end. Many of the best deals on housing can be found on the northeast corner of the neighborhood, which is also where you’ll find a wide selection of restaurants, coffeehouses, and specialty shops.
Hyde Park is home to one of Chicago’s most famous landmarks: The Museum of Science and Industry, near the lakefront, sits on a portion of the park that hosted the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition. The neighborhood is surrounded by beautiful green spaces, with the lakefront parks to the east, Midway Plaisance to the south, and the sprawling Washington Park to the west; this ensures that all residents enjoy easy access to gorgeous scenery, lush foliage, and expansive sports facilities.
