About This Property
INTRO: Charming, unfurnished apartment available soon (June 1) on Portland Peninsula! This is a two bedroom, one bath apartment in a quiet, professional, owner-occupied, historic triple-decker building, high atop Munjoy Hill in Portland's walkable and eclectic East End! FEATURES: Classic and modern features abound throughout this unique, well-kept three-unit building, included on the Munjoy Hill Historic Registry. Originally built in 1895 as the JJ Gilbert House, this spacious, tastefully renovated apartment is on the second floor, with hardwood floors, windows on all sides of building providing wonderful natural light, and even your own private back deck! The second floor space features a nicely upgraded kitchen, including stainless steel appliances (gas stove/oven, built-in microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher), granite countertops, and in-unit washer and dryer in laundry room/mud room adjacent to kitchen and both back doors. The space also includes two bedrooms (both with closets), remodeled bathroom (with bathtub/shower), loft style living room and dining rooms (with built in bookcase, and closet), high ceilings, crown molding, recessed lighting, dual-paned windows and window treatments through out. There is plentiful storage, and even a finished four-season sun room overlooking the large private back deck, with garden views, and even peeks of the iconic Portland Observatory and downtown skyline. HEATING SYSTEM: The natural gas-fueled, forced hot water heating system is well maintained, and serviced annually by owner. Each of the three apartments in this historic building has its own boiler (in basement) with in unit programmable thermostats, and radiators in every room (including the four-season sun room). (Window A/C is also possible during summer.) PARKING: Reserved off-street parking for one car is optional/available, next to garden. (Additional street parking is free and easy throughout the neighborhood; no permits required in East End. However, residential parking permit stickers ARE available.) GROUND TRANSPO: In addition to your own, reserved off street parking space next to gardens (should you choose), nearby public transportation options abound -- Uber / Lyft, local bus lines, DownEaster train / bus station to Boston and Logan Airport (BOS), Portland Jetport (PWM), Portland Ferry Terminal to all Casco Bay Islands, and I-295 are all very convenient ... but not TOO close. NEIGHBORHOOD: All of Munjoy Hill's renowned amenities are mere steps away -- restaurants and coffee/tea houses, neighborhood markets, Portland Observatory, community gardens, etc. Stroll over to the Eastern Prom and its epic Casco Bay views, parks and playgrounds, East End Beach, public boat ramp, sailing and kayaking, tennis and pickle ball courts, walking/jogging/ride trails, etc. And just an easy walk down the hill is Washington Avenue's popular "Restaurant Row," the up-and-coming Bayside Neighborhood with additional restaurants and micro-breweries (Rising Tide, Austin Street, Tandem Coffee, etc.), the Old Port, and all of downtown Portland's amenities Northeastern's Roux Institute (both campuses), the Univ. of Southern Maine, all local hospitals, local sports teams, Back Cove, etc. SUMMARY: 12-month lease, along with first/last/security deposit. Available June 1/2026. The entire space will be professionally cleaned the day before you move in -- move in ready! Excellent credit scores, employment, and housing references required. No smoking anywhere on premises. No dogs. Single, well-behaved cat considered (with excellent pet references and pet fee). Select, in person showings by appointment only; please do not disturb current tenants! Please write with any questions about the space, to request/schedule an in-person tour, etc. And given Munjoy Hill's high demand and limited supply of long term, unfurnished rentals, please take a minute to share a little about yourself, too, to open the conversation. Thanks very much!
