About This Home
Escape the noise and reconnect with nature at this secluded cabin hideaway in Mt. Vernon. Tucked in the trees, this rustic-yet-cozy retreat offers the perfect balance of comfort and simplicity. Disconnect and recharge with solar power and minimal tech distractions. Whether you’re seeking solitude, a writer’s escape, or a romantic unplugged weekend, this cabin adventure offers peace, privacy, and the ultimate back-to-nature experience. Enjoy a private cabin that sleeps two in a queen bed plus two studio units in another cabin, with a queen bed and a double pull-out couch. Each detached cabin has onsite laundry with a washer and dryer. Each of the three units has its own kitchen and full-shower bathroom. Smart TVs are in each unit, providing a welcoming cabin surrounded by nature, designed for relaxation and quiet. Unwind by the fire pit or simply soak in the fresh, mountain air. Guests have private use of the cabins. Several fun amenities and farm animals such as gardens, a pond, a playhouse, a hammock, bunnies, chickens, ducks, two friendly dogs, and soon goats are on the main house side of the compound. Guests are welcome to ask the owners for a tour or to use the amenities. This 40-acre compound includes a main house and grounds where the owners and their family live. Nearby attractions include Downtown Mount Vernon with charming historic streets, boutique shops, and local eateries, Lincoln Theatre for live performances or classic films, and scenic paths at Little Mountain Park, Kiwanis Park, Hillcrest Park, and Riverwalk Plaza. Skagit Station offers convenient access for Amtrak and regional buses, perfect for day trips. Enjoy the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in spring and discover quaint vineyards and scenic trails for wine tasting and outdoor adventure. This retreat offers a one-of-a-kind experience to live off-the-grid and get a taste of being unplugged. Solar electricity powers the compound, but appliances that use a lot of electricity are limited. Internet is available via Starlink, and cellphone signal strength will depend on your carrier. Common appliances are being replaced with off-grid friendly ones, like a pour-over coffee maker instead of a plugged-in drip coffee machine. As a wilderness retreat, wild animals may be encountered in the woods when hiking, so be alert and prepared. [SI]

Legendary in American history as the home of George Washington, the community of Mount Vernon is named after the first president’s longtime residence on the bank of the Potomac River. Beyond the historic landmark, the broader community of Mount Vernon is a delightful Washington, D.C. suburb with easy access to Capitol Hill, Fort Belvoir, and Quantico, making it a great home base for commuters. Huntley Meadows Park on the north side provides a sprawling venue for enjoying time outdoors, with smaller parks like Grist Mill within walking distance for many locals.
