Located just two miles north of Coney Island and stretches of sand along Brighton Beach and Manhattan Beach, Midwood is one of Brooklyn's much-loved -- and surprisingly lesser known -- neighborhoods. In some ways, it's traditional New York: extremely walkable, bicycle-friendly, and near mass transit. It features tall, brick buildings with wrought-iron fire escapes, and the wide sidewalks lead past friendly neighborhood bakeries, delis, and boutiques. But in other ways, it feels much more suburban, with its tree-filled neighborhoods, elegant single-family homes, and a historic shopping district filled with locally-owned businesses.

Subway stations are scattered throughout Midwood and provide a 45-minute ride to Manhattan. Residents can drive south on Ocean Parkway to enjoy a day at the beach, and students appreciate easy access to Brooklyn College, set just outside of Midwood. Double Corner Nightmare

Where to begin with this place, but the building itself. I constantly find cockroaches in the hallways sometimes still alive approximately 2 inches in length. The floors are filthy and there are problems with missing packages. The apartment itself is spacious, but everyonce in a while a gigantic cockroach makes its way in. The kitchen has no exhaust and an illegal kitchen, and all of the window screens are torn and windows filthy. The hot water sometimes doesn't work, and the radiators are inconsistently hot and cold in the winter. The worst part of being a resident in this building is dealing with the management. They force us to mail our rent checks to an address in New Jersey, and sometimes it takes up to 3 weeks to process a check. They then assess late fees even though it's their fault. My suggestion is to send certified mail, so that way you can prove you sent it in time.
