For example, the neighborhoods of Everett and Near South are ideal locations for college students. They consist of single family homes and apartment complexes all situated near the downtown campuses of both UNL and Southeast Community College. Everett is known for its historic old buildings and garden apartments while Near South features older single family homes.

      When looking for a small house to rent, the bungalow life might be a better option. Certain Lincoln neighborhoods have a reputation for their classic bungalow structures. This would include the Woods Park region near the Lincoln Children’s Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

      Lincoln is a big city with a small town feel. It has live music, an abundance of art, theaters and museums. The Historic Haymarket, located downtown, is home to art galleries like the Burkholder Project, a maze of studios rented by local artists. You will find the Pinnacle Bank Arena in the west region of the Haymarket. This 15,147 indoor event structure has hosted top celebrities like Pink and Elton John, as well as,the UNL men’s and women’s basketball teams.

      Just off to the south of the downtown area is the landmark Nebraska State Capitol building. Inside you find murals celebrating Native American heritage and the early culture of the state. There are busts of famous Nebraska residents lining the halls including Buffalo Bill.

      Lincoln is home to some of the most eclectic museums around. The University of Nebraska State Museum, called Elephant Hall by local residents, is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and features paleontology exhibits complete with a dinosaur gallery, wildlife dioramas and a rotating display of diverse topics.

      Some of the most interesting and unusual museums in town include the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia Museum, Frank H. Woods Telephone Museum, the Museum of American Speed and the National Museum of Roller Skating.

      Nightlife in Lincoln, NE

      The Pinnacle Bank Arena is not the only music venue in the city. Lincoln has a thriving music scene that includes historic places such as the blues music favorite the Zoo Bar. The Bourbon Theatre is a multi-use location that hosts musical talent from all over the world. The Haymarket district is a popular choice for both clubbing and live music. The Railyard, across the street from the arena, is the entertainment district with live music, fine dining, hot clubs and the Cube mega screen.

      Sports in Lincoln, NE

      No discussion of Lincoln would be complete without a section on sports. Lincoln, Nebraska is home to everything from the Nebraska Cornhuskers to the No Coast Derby Girls, members of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association. In between those two extremes, there is a minor league baseball team, the Lincoln Saltdogs, the Lincoln Haymakers for indoor football, junior ice hockey and championship basketball teams.

      When the college football season arrives, the city of Lincoln sees nothing but red – as in Go Big Red. Homes fly red flags and the downtown area becomes awash with Husker memorabilia. Memorial Stadium officially holds just over 87,000 fans and sells to capacity week after week. In fact, the stadium holds the NCAA record for consecutive sellouts. On game days, they call it the “Sea of Red.”
