There are no professional sports teams that call Troy their host city, but just a short drive north on I-75 will take you to Auburn Hills, where the NBA's Detroit Pistons play at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Conversely, a drive south on I-75 will take you to the heart of downtown Detroit, where the NHL's Red Wings, NFL's Lions and MLB's Tigers play in their respective sports facilities.
Although Troy doesn't host a professional sports team, that doesn't mean that sports and recreation are absent from the city. The Troy Sports Center, located on East Big Beaver Road, houses four full ice surfaces and is a popular place for youth and adult teams and leagues to play ice hockey in the area. The Troy Sports Center is also home to a fitness center, which many athletes from the city's four professional teams use to get and stay in shape throughout the offseason. The Troy Sports Center was also the unofficial practice center of the Red Wings when the NHL was locked out to start the 2012-13 season. Players organized impromptu skates at the rink to keep their game up while they weren't allowed to skate at their home venues.

A stroll down Big Beaver will not only yield all of the major fast food restaurant chains, but an assortment of other kinds of restaurants, ranging from the chains (Buffalo Wild Wings, Champs, The Melting Pot) to the unique (Big Beaver Tavern, Joe Cool's) to the upscale (Ruth's Chris, J. Alexander, The Capital Grille). There are a multitude of options for dining in Troy, both on the main throughway that is Big Beaver Road and on the various other intersecting streets and roads within city limits.
Shopping in Troy, MI
The crown jewel of shopping in Troy is none other than the Somerset Collection, an upscale, luxury shopping mall located on Big Beaver Road, just a few miles west of the I-75 freeway exit. The mall consists of both north and south ends and consists of over 180 specialty stores spanning three levels. In addition to a food court, valet parking and concierge services and a covered, climate controlled bridge that hovers over Big Beaver Road and connects the north and south ends of the mall, Somerset Collections features the likes of Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue as main mall tenants.
