      Neighborhood

      Bordering Washington Park to the East, Hyde Park is a popular and culturally diverse South Side community. Lush, spacious parks and the University of Chicago campus dominate the neighborhood. Although there is a wide selection of luxury communities, there are many apartments and rental houses that are surprisingly affordable, attracting students, faculty, staff, and any renters looking for a good deal.

      This small park-like neighborhood is rich with history. Hyde Park is home to one of Chicago’s most famous landmarks: The Museum of Science and Industry, the largest science museum in the Western Hemisphere. Hyde Park was also home to the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition, several Nobel Prize winners, and former President Barack Obama. The neighborhood is surrounded by beautiful green spaces, lush foliage, and lakefront parks with small beaches.       I was promised a gift card if I renewed my lease, but they have not given it to me. The "Community Rewards" system is a scam. Vue 53 is run by corporate landlords, completely soulless parasites.

      My roommate and I have had a serious cockroach problem since we first moved in. The maintenance staff is fairly responsive but nothing they've done has helped at all. I suspect this has something to do with us being so close to the trash chute and other residences not properly following instructions. I wish the staff were a bit more proactive about this. I wouldn't mind if trash chutes were closed for a bit so that people feel more compelled to actually follow the rules. I've also felt a bit unsafe a couple of times while in the elevator or in the lobby. There isn't much security so I've had a couple strange encounters that made me a bit nervous. It's not the worst place to live for the price, but I'm very glad to be moving out.

      The apartment itself was in pretty good condition at move in. Besides some small maintenance issues, it felt like a decent new home. There were, however, many issues with the leasing office. Poor communication amongst the staff translated into even worse miscommunication with us, the residents. Sad to say I'm already looking for a new place to stay for next year.

      The apartment is very nice, modern, and conveniently located. Also the amenities such as the gym or the terraces on the roofs are big perks. The bedrooms are a little small, however. Furthermore, the indicated preferences in the preference form which every applicant had to submit (e.g. stating the floor level) were ignored.

      I have a great experience with Vue53 thus far. The process of signing the lease and the customer service provided by the property managers are great, and they were more than willing to answer our many questions during move in. I am also very happy with the particular unit we got. However, I noticed that the subletting process is not optimal, as the subletter is forced to pay the application fee as well for their two month stay. The fitness center also lacks AC and the water filter is expired. The elevator certificates are also expired. I think if the community amenities and subleasing rules can be updated, I would enjoy my experience here a lot more.

      Unlivable temperature, refuse to turn air conditioning on

      The apartments are insulated with solid concrete and the windows open only a crack. While there is theoretically AC available in the units, it's active for a minority of the year. It's currently 78 degrees in the spring and management still refuses to turn the AC on in the units. Given the insulation, it's consistently considerably hotter in the apartment than it is outside, meaning when the outdoor temperature is in the high 70s, it's over 80 in the apartment. Even in the winter it was routinely ~75 in the unit. Management has been alternately rude and unresponsive to concerns about temperature. One need only drive by the building in the dead of winter and observe how many of the units have their windows open for proof of this. Please, please look elsewhere - this place is unlivable for a significant fraction of the year.

      A/C is turned off way too early. Apartment is never below 78 degrees. Avoid this place at all costs. Internet is incredibly slow, and not secure. You are not allowed to acquire your own router. Stay far away from Vue53.

      This is my 7th year of residency here at Vue53. The staff here is responsive to my needs. My main issue is one that can't be helped, which is the level of noise out on busy 53rd street -- especially in the summer. I'm in a unit overlooking the park, so that means it overlooks the street. I suspect that the units on higher floors, and those situated at the sides and back of the building are probably quieter.

      My experience had Vue 53, ever since I moved here in 2016, has been nothing short of beautiful. If I have a problem with my sink or my toilet or anything in my apartment maintenance has been on time and fixing the problem and the Realtors working in the office have been nothing but friendly. Security is warm and welcoming and always keeping the residence safe I would definitely recommend this to someone who was looking for an apartment and looking for a great place to live, it's Vue 53

      My stay here has been convenient and comfortable. Only caveats are it can get quite noisy during nighttime as I can hear the plumbing from other units. And it is quite expensive.

      Not worth over the top prices. Insecure property: got bike stolen two times. Hidden fees. Small areas. Much better places in Hyde Park.

      I would not recommend renting an apartment at Vue 53. There are much better places in Hyde Park at reasonable prices. You would be charged much more than what you see on their website. I got two bikes stolen from the building on two separate occasions and they did nothing to fix the security issues. The areas are very small compared to other places that cost less than half the price and have better security. They also charge high fees if you're paying with your card through their website. I was also charged a $140 move out fee for normal wear and tear. There are much better places in Hyde Park, don't get fooled by their fancy website.
