Located just eight miles southeast of Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti is best known as the home of Eastern Michigan University. Ypsilanti, often shortened to Ypsi by locals, touts plenty of small-town charm and historic character—from its vibrant downtown to the historic Depot Town neighborhood.

Ypsi fosters a strong sense of community through a bevy of year-round events, including Elvisfest, the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival, and the Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Beer Festival, among many others. History buffs delight in Ypsi’s many offerings, such as the Michigan Firehouse Museum, Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage Museum, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

North Bay Park on Ford Lake is also close by. Convenience to I-94 connects Ypsilanti to nearby Ann Arbor, Detroit, and beyond.

Living in Ypsilanti

  • Restaurants

While often overshadowed by its neighbor, Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti still has a great number of unique restaurants to choose from. Whether you're in the mood for a burger and craft beer, barbecue food, or homestyle cooking, you've got plenty of options.

If you visit or move to Ypsilanti, you'll definitely need to check out Sidetrack Bar and Grill, which is located in Depot Town. This restaurant has been around since the 1800s and, due to its proximity to the railroad tracks, is appropriately named and themed. In fact, a section of this restaurant was wiped out in 1929 when a train derailed and crashed into the building! Today, this place serves up some of the best hamburgers you'll ever eat; try the Mac Attack burger, which is topped with macaroni and cheese, bacon, and barbecue sauce. The cajun fries are delicious, too.

In the mood for something a little...different? If so, be sure to stop by The Wurst Bar and Grill, a unique place that specializes in gourmet bratwurst, beer, and burgers. You can even try alligator here! Where else in Southeastern Michigan can you say that? This restaurant is located right off of Eastern Michigan University's campus on Cross Street. And even though it's only been around a few years, it's certainly developed a great reputation among the locals and college crowd alike. Be sure to try the sweet potato tots with a spicy Italian brat!
