Property Ratings at Washington Apartments
Before I took this apartment, I looked at a lot of places in midtown. There are MUCH worse out there for the same price, and much better for a lot more money. This place is fine, for the price, but realize what you're getting. "Walking distance from Westport" is probably the nicest thing I can say about this complex. Several restaurants and bars are nearby, including grocery and a gas station. Although there are laundry facilities available in a separate building, they are frequently busy and often out of order. The walls are thin, and you can hear the neighbor's cat walking. Parking is available, but limited. Rent includes water, but you'll pay your own electric, gas, cable, and phone. Exterminators come once a month, and you'll be glad when they do. On-site storage is present, but not always available to new tenants. Kitchen is very small, with a separate entrance. Large closets, but very few outlets (none in the bathroom).
The Washington Apartments feature mostly one bedroom apartments that are pretty spacious. Dishwashers are in all apartments and although the kitchen space is narrow there is plenty of cabinet space, a big refrigerator, and decent sized oven/stove unit. Utilities are not included in the $500/mo price tag but anywhere else in midtown as far as a one bedroom is concerned will run you about $200 more and still doesn't include utilities. Walking distance to the Westport is close and convenient. Bars, restaurants, entertainment and shopping await you a mere five minute away. It really is an apartment in the heart of the city with easy highway access and close driving distances to downtown and south KC. Pets are allowed which is a plus and there is a laundry facility on site. The only bad thing I will say is (This depends on if you like a landlord around all the time or not) that my landlord can be hard to get a hold of for repairs and questions. The trade off of course is that he is flexible with rent and does take care of things when he can get to them. Otherwise, I have lived here 4 years and would recommend it to anyone fresh out of college, the middle aged and elderly. There is a good mix of everyone and a good community that watches out for the security of each unit which is big in this area.
