Property Ratings at View 34
Short version: toxic water + loud drilling + crowded/delayed elevators, fire alarms only for decoration, poor ventilation in common areas, etc., and a few pros (some people who work there like Benny working in packages), central location, can have laundry done for additional cost Long version: There was frequent and obnoxious drilling (all day drilling) heard loudly in the apartment and issues with water quality. The drilling was mind numbingly loud-with hours of that torture, it felt like a Black Mirror episode. It was so frequent I was in disbelief. There would be a break during sleeping hours and the next day…more drilling. I developed some skin and hair issues that may have been related to the water quality. Water from the bathroom sink especially would have a weird nauseating algae smell even if it appeared clear. I would highly recommend all residents to test themselves and the water-then leave as soon as possible. Gigstreem, internet provider by the apartment, which another reviewer mentioned did have significant issues in the common areas. So if you did not want to leave the apartment due to drilling noises, etc. you might not be able to work in the common areas. We were using our phone personal hotspot instead of the building WiFi for our laptops in the second floor amenities lounge. We spent so much time troubleshooting this issue too. There were issues with AC throughout the apartment-the playroom and top floor common area would often be overheated/uncomfortable and therefore unusable. There were times the water would be turned off all day and once I missed the email notice and this completely caught me off guard and I was unable to shower (in the toxic water) and felt gross even though that might have been for the best. During my entire duration there were issues with elevator-I once witnessed people stuck inside the elevator and it looked terrifying. I said my prayers and accepted that one day I might also die in the elevator-after all, that was my own fault for living in this apartment. The bathrooms on the second floor were also often really gross. I learned during an actual fire crisis, the fire alarm system is not working-the halls were filled with opaque smoke. Ending review due to character limit.

It will take you 10mins an elevator trip. At least one is always broken and 2 elevators cannot service that many people. They cut costs on elevators and it seems they did so in all aspects of development
Property Manager at View 34, Responded To This Review
Hello, We are saddened to hear that you have been experiencing issues with our elevators. We are happy to announce our elevator modernization project in the South Tower is almost completed and we will be addressing the North Tower elevators next. We apologize for the inconvenience and look forward to improving your experience. Kind Regards, Madison WeCare@udr.com
Please avoid this building at all costs - you will be extremely disappointed with the staff's and management's unprofessionalism and the condition of nearly everything in this building. From finding broken glass in my shower upon moving in to washers that only leave your clothes in a pool of water, View 34 truly has it all. The trash room on my floor near the service elevator has exposed electrical wires, the elevators break constantly, there is only 1 out of 4 working grills on the rooftop, management will shut off the water for 6+ hours with only a day notice, the maintenance team will not fix your AC unit even when you request it be fixed (I learned the ramifications of incompetent staff when my rug was destroyed by my leaking AC unit that staff refused to fix), inconsistent enforcement of security at both entrances, the list goes on and on and on. To top it off, the building did not take good care of my bike in the storage room, which is locked and upon moving out, I discovered it was either thrown out by staff or stolen. Then of course, the building manager refused to reimburse me the monthly fee I paid to store a bike all year long..... Save yourself the massive headache of dealing with a rude management team, incompetent staff members, broken facilities and overpriced rent.
Going to echo what other people have said that the management is terrible. They really don't care about renters. My problem was with loud neighbors that I've been trying to solve for over 5 months. Management has been utterly useless at solving this and all they can do is lie and ignore me. I have been so patient with them and just asking them for reimbursement for my time and money (and after showing them recordings and filing DOZENS of noise complaints) has led to them completely ignoring me. As a side note, yes elevators are always broken.
This building sucks. Rooms are nice. Views are nicer. However, the management team is atrocious. They are nice when you talk to them but they don’t anything done. Elevators are broken 1-2 times a week in BOTH towers. Plan at least 20 minutes to take the elevator both was Dryers do not dry your clothes (I always have to leave time to run it twice, or pay extra for two dryers per one washing machine). The media room TVs and Rooftop TVs have not worked in years. Maintenance takes 3 days to fix any of your problems before it’s broken 2 days later. Do NOT live here. You will regret it
The management of this building does not care about the tennants. I have had a rodent problem for over 2 weeks now. They only give a crap about tenants paying rent on time. If you like mice all over your apartment and rats outside greeting you in the lobby then its building for you. RATS, MICE , CockRoaches are everywhere - renter beware
View 34 is a great location in NYC and the building is extremely nice but it comes at a large cost. The rent is too high and it full of false hope. Year 3, we are still waiting for the luxury rooftop that we were told would open a few months into our first year lease. New lobby is gorgeous but there is lots of construction in the area. Overall love the apt but its too expensive and service could be a little better.
Right on the border of Murray Hill and Kips Bay. I live in a two bedroom apartment converted for 4 people. Sounds cramped? Not as much as you think. We live very comfortably. Even after puting a wall in our living room to make an extra bedroom, there is still ample space for everyone. Most rooms have balconies. Our balcony has a gorgeous view of the east river. If you are on the building's other side, the view is a beautiful midtown skyline. An in-house gym and a soon-to-be open rooftop are big benefits as well. The building is mostly young people. Probably because the rent is pretty affordable. Most of our friends are impressed when they come over. Overall not a bad place to be, especially if you work in midtown.
Great building. It looks like you are stepping into a hotel more than a residence. Clean, helpful stuff, gym, media room with ping pong table and shuffle board, two conference rooms, computers. Apt is very new, NO PESTS, and whenever something break they repair it so fast! It is expensive but it is definetely worth the price. Only downside they still have not finished the renovation of the rooftop when they said it was gonna be over before the beginning of summer. Also not the best elevators
The building is nice and has friendly staff who will help when they can. Here are the pros and cons. Pros: Good Facilities Great apartment interiors and appliances Cons: Elevators breakdown, there have been weeks where only 1 out of 4 elevators were functioning! needless to say there were lines Some student residents who can be obnoxiously loud, be warned AC units let in too much noise from the outside
Beautiful renovated granite countertops large living room looking down the East river. Watching the pontoon boats land all the time. Helicopter pad right out front but windows are soundproof. Helicopters start at 8 and end about 7. Really only going at rush hour. Cool to look at at 1st but then become annoying with balcony use. Building has every amenity from business office (conference rooms and computers for you) to play rooms for children. Large room w kitchen to hold party for 50 rooftop deck and screening room w huge tvs and comfy chairs. No laundry in room but plenty on 2nd fllr (pay) and a valet in building you can drop off or they pick up dry cleaning and laundry if u like. Doorman and concierge. North and south towers a very large very NEW YORK operation so don't expect perfection but it's good especially for the price. I pay 3,900 for a large 1 bdrm w balcony 11th floor. Many younger people put up petitions and turn it into 2 bedrooms. Looks of models in building it seems or just good looking people lots of little perks for living here to. Card to get in bars w/o waiting in line or free drinks discounts at restaurants. Also east river taxi (downtown and Brooklyn) and ferry to nj beaches or Martha's Vineyard Yankee games right across street.
