Property Ratings at The Village of Newport
My mother has lived in these apartments for over six years now, and when she first moved in she was ecstatic about the space she was getting for the price; especially as she is on a fixed income. I toured the property with her and have seen it evolve over half a decade. Then came the "extras". Valet garbage service? Guess what, they don't even run on the days they're supposed to, and my poor mother is still forced to pay this ridiculous premium every month for something she's not even receiving. This cost isn't optional, she's bordering elderly and has to haul her trash to the dumpster while still paying for this ridiculous non-service. Landscaping here used to be beautiful, but now whenever I visit the sidewalks are a slip hazard, rocks are out of place, flies are abound, and mud is present where it should not be. Parking? Good luck if you don't pay extra every month for a covered spot! My mother needs ADA parking and there just is not enough ADA spots at these apartments, flat out. Visitor spots are few and far between, better plan on living alone or never having people over unless they take the bus because they're not going to be able to park. My mother's deck is wooden and has not been painted or re-sealed since she moved in, I'm a carpenter by trade and I guarantee that wood is half rotten now as management doesn't maintain them. If you bring issues directly to the property manager they claim that they'll take care of things but nothing ever gets done. There's other issues my mother has with her unit that I won't disclose here since I don't want the manager to retaliate; he already has a few times but I can't disclose how or her identity may be compromised. Do yourself a favor and never rent a unit here unless you're absolutely desperate. Yes, it's a roof over your head, and slightly more affordable than some in the area, but management is counting on you being desperate to see what they can get away with. Don't live here if you can avoid it!
