Property Ratings at The Summit at Heritage Apartments
This place has changed management at least 3 times and get worse Everytime. I have no idea why I renewed my lease but won't next time. The amount the post in the portal that is due for rent is paid in full every month early and the last two times I have gotten a nasty gram from the owners BAM that I still owe a balance and will be evicted if I don't pay ASAP. They also have underestimated the amount of garbage by a long shot and the dumpsters are always overflowing with trash and refuse all over the place this is common and happens at least several times a week. The parcel lockers have been broke off and on for the past 2 years it is common to have a package delivered during the weekend and get an error when trying to get a package and they won't reboot it until the following week day. Lawns are covered with weeds and dog poop everywhere. I could go on and on but enough for now this place is horrible.

We have owned this property for quite some time now and our office staff has stayed the same for over a year, we would love to meet you so please feel free to stop by during business hours so we can introduce ourselves personally. Let us assure you that we're presently working on improving these areas of concern. We are looking into new lockers for the 2026 year and will keep you informed if this change is going to take place once decided on. Regarding the upkeep of lawns, we encourage all residents to clean up after their pets to maintain the cleanliness of our community. Our maintenance staff walks and cleans the grounds daily so we will make sure they are paying attention to areas of high traffic. Do NOT move here! I’ve had nothing but problems since living in this facility. They’ve gone through multiple different managements since I initially moved in and everyone of them have done everything they can to sneak in fees that they force you to pay or you get kicked out. They are not accommodating or cooperative with residents whatsoever. It’s definitely not worth the money.

We were promised additional kitchen cabinetry within a month of moving in. The apartment had a severe lack of kitchen storage without, and frankly, without the promise of these cabinets, the place is unlivable and we would not have rented. The first month passes, no word on cabinets. We complain and they said they hoped to have them installed in December (the 2nd month). December passes, no word. Complain again in January. Get a rent credit with the promise of continuing credits every month until installed and the promise of buying temporary cabinets if we sent them a link. Sent them a link mid-February and got radio silence again. After reaching out two weeks later finally got a response that cabinets were still not ready to be installed and that they couldn't buy us cabinets without approval because of the cost (which was no more expensive than anything else available on Amazon). No mention of the continuing rental credits (which we haven't received). Place also had shoddy construction (gaps in flooring, incomplete coats of paint, significant settling of the building leading to wall cracks and cracks around windows), a master toilet that leaks like a sieve, even after maintenance. Due to the lack of caring and response by management we will never rent here again.

I moved into Ascend during the summer of 2019 and couldn’t be more pleased with my choice. I toured many complexes in the West Des Moines/Johnston area, and nothing could compete with Ascend. The complex is quiet, safe, and clean. I love that it is nonsmoking, has controlled access, and includes amenities like in unit washer/dryer, a great fitness center, and a pool. The complex is also very dog friendly but still clean and quiet. I would highly recommend this complex and it’s respectful management staff!
I moved into Ascend in October and it couldn't have been a better experience thus far. The staff have been so friendly and eager to help. The apartments are spacious and modern and are easy to make into a home. I'm excited to be apart of the Ascend Community!
This complex is the best I’ve lived at. The staff are very friendly and helpful with the move in process. It’s clean and up to date. It’s a great place to live and you get a lot out of your money here.
We moved to Ascend in September of 2019. It has been good to us thus far. We love the feel and look of our home, in addition to all that Ascend provides (great workout room, amazing clubhouse, a pool). Maintenance is kept up well, and staff is pretty prompt in replies. Overall, it has been a great home for us.
I’ve loved living here so far! The staff is very responsive and extremely helpful. The community is very clean and quiet. Maintenance issues have been addressed the same day which is a plus!
As a current tenant, I have to say I haven't lived in a more respectable complex. Neighbors are pleasant, polite.

I toured a ton of apartments in the Johnston Grimes area and instantly felt at home at Ascend. Friendly staff and they are very prompt. Great amenities and my 3rd story, west facing apartment has a great sunset view.
We moved into Ascend in November. This is our first place to call home and we love it. The neighbors and staff are very friendly! The staff is also very helpful with any issues we have come across so far! Highly recommend!
