It even includes the community of Storrs, home to the University of Connecticut. There’s a lot of history in Mansfield. The town was part of Windham in the 1600s, called Ponde Place by settlers. They broke away from Windham and incorporated in 1702. By the 1800s, Windham was known for its production of silk.
Park space fills Mansfield and includes the UConn Forest, Shelter Falls Park, Schoolhouse Brook Park, Mansfield Hollow State Park, the Moss Sanctuary, and the Dunhamtown Forest and Joshua’s Trust. On the outskirts of Mansfield, you’ll discover acres of farmland and orchards. Storrs Road, especially closer to UConn, is dotted with shops and restaurants. Near the intersection of Storrs Road and Eagleville Road, you’ll find the Mansfield Community Center and the Storrs Farmers Market.
