The Smyth

I’ve lived at The Smyth for over a year, and I've truly enjoyed living at The Smyth; the amenities are excellent, the building is well-maintained, and the location is very convenient. My experience as a resident has been largely positive, and I appreciated the modern design, responsive maintenance team, and overall quality of the property. However, I was very disappointed by the handling of my lease renewal. After receiving notice of a substantial rent increase or about 11.5%, I reached out in good faith to try and negotiate a more reasonable adjustment. I referred to comparable market rates (including The Smyth’s own listings for the same unit type at a lower cost) and emphasized my strong payment history as a reliable tenant and participation in community events. Unfortunately, management was completely unwilling to consider any negotiation, citing high occupancy and market value. I understand that rent increases are part of the reality of leasing, but the rigidity and lack of consideration felt impersonal; especially when a part of the marketing for the building focus on the sense of “community”. It gave me the impression that existing residents are not valued nearly as much as new lease prospects. Ultimately, I feel like I was priced out of a place I genuinely liked, and that has been disappointing. If you're considering moving in, you’ll likely enjoy the building itself. Just be aware that the renewal process may leave little room for flexibility, regardless of your history or the actual market trends. I’ve also been made aware that this is not an isolated issue; I know several people that have had the same impersonal renewal experience.

Overall, living at The Smyth has been a positive experience. I think the community life team does an amazing job hosting events and creating groups (book club, etc.) to get people in the building together. The cleaning and maintenance staff also do a really great job -- the building is generally always spotless. The only complaint is residents who do not clean up after their dogs in the dog run, as it inhibits the ability of responsible dog owners from being able to use this amenity (which we all pay for). It would be nice if there were a way to fine residents who fail to do this. My biggest complaint is the lack of guest parking when I am paying a premium in rent (compared to other buildings). I understand there cannot be designated guest spots, but a code for discounted guest parking (vs. the very expensive public rates) would be a nice concession. Another complaint is management does not ever seem to take feedback and action on it.

Great move-in experience! Highly recommend The Smyth building so far—loving the pool, amenities, and welcoming community atmosphere. Friendly staff as well.

Living at The Smyth has exceeded my expectations! This is a great community with fantastic amenities. The Smyth is convenient to shops, restaurants and the train station.

We love the Smyth! Everyone is extremely accommodating and we have used the amenities daily. All neighbors and staff are very friendly. Perfect location in downtown and a quick walk to the train station.

Love everything about my living experience at the Symth. Great building and friendly staff. Highly recommend. This is my second apartment in Stamford and I spent a lot of time ensuring that I found the right building for me. The Symth has not disappointed. The staff responds quickly and is always available. Building is clean and amenities are good.

We loved The Smyth from the second we stepped in the reception. The people from the leasing office were so welcoming, especially Max who was made us feel great, showed us the whole building and answering all our questions. We are proud to be living here!

5 star aspects of the building: - community events: our apartment life team does an excellent job putting on events and building community in the building - staff is very attentive - building is always clean average aspects of the building: - rent is getting outrageous considering the # of new builds in the area and the fact that there are still options much more affordable - great amenities, but it costs too much to reserve amenities in the building when we already pay a monthly fee for them horrible aspects of the building: - there are ZERO guest parking options and overly expensive parking rates; the building should dedicate SOME retail spaces to guest and offer a first come, first serve reservation system for guests (limit to one day/night unless there is open reservation the following day) overall, this has been a great place to live but everything feels like a quick money grab and it is taking away from the "community first" mantra they try to portray

People are friendly here. It’s been a good experience. I will say, however, there’s entirely too much technology required - with little benefit. You are asked to download a minimum of four different apps, which do not work well or are unreliable and any of the tasks could easily be completed manually.

So far the experience has been great. We just moved in but everything has gone very seamless. Everyone seems so nice and friendly. Enjoying so far.

Living here has been a great experience, especially for commuters—it’s truly the closest building to the train station, which makes mornings so much easier. The doormen are fantastic—reliable, friendly, and worth building relationships with. The building is cleaned daily, from the apartment floors to the amenities, and it always feels well-maintained. The only downside is that, because it’s such a large building, you may occasionally hear barking from more sensitive dogs reacting to nearby noise.

Beautiful amenities and great location. Walking distance to train and fantastic restaurants. The 17th floor Club Room is the best with a pool table and community events!

Everything has been perfect so far! From my apartment itself with its spacious layout, high ceilings, beautiful gold hardware, quality cabinetry and appliances, amazing water pressure, well-insulated walls from sound, and windows that don't leak hot/cool air... to the beautiful, cozy, and fun amenities that never seem crowded, yet are actively utilized by residents for a social vibe... to the convenient location walkable to many restaurants, etc... to the friendly, helpful staff... to the super fun social calendar of events that make The Smyth feel like a community and not just a place to live.

After a week at The Smyth in Stamford, CT, my experience has been very positive. The modern amenities, including a well-equipped fitness center, create a luxurious feel, and the staff has been attentive and responsive, making move-in smooth and hassle-free.

The fire alarm has gone off 3 times in less than 10 hours. Once at 1am, another time at 1:30am and a third time at 10:30am. The safety of this building is questionable and I do not feel safe. Residents have not been alerted of an emergency situation and building management has not updated residents on what is happening. This is absolutely unacceptable. I do not feel like a valued resident here.

We appreciate living in a professionally managed high end apartment building with a polite, dedicated and efficient staff. We’re here almost two years and maintenance wise everything has been working fine in the apartment. Keep up the good work!

One month in and it’s been great. Our leasing agent Max was awesome - turns out everyone here is just like him. Neighbors have been friendly and there are dogs everywhere!

Loving the apartment overall! The 2 bed 2 bath floor plan is so spacious and well laid out. The building amenities and general decor and design provides such a luxurious feel. I really truly feel I am getting my moneys worth out of my unit and building, not to mention proximity to train and downtown!

The Smyth is a very professionally run building. It is always kept very clean and organized. The cleaning crew is top notch as well as the office staff and concierge. Excellent community . Just renewed our lease.

I love living here. Everything from the location in Downtown Stamford to the responsiveness of the staff. The apartment complex is well managed.

overall, I have been satisfied with what the Smyth offers. I do think for the cost of rent, there should be a limited # of overnight guest passes and reserved guest parking. They could be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis and have to be returned after 24 hours... seems a bit crazy for what we pay in rent that is not something offered for guests. Starting to feel a bit like the cost of living here is higher than buildings that offer more, such as a state-of-the-art gym that offers classes among other things.

Great space, interior design is sleek and functionally optimized. The administrative design (staff and protocols and opportunity for input) is effective and "tenant friendly" and focused on aesthetics as much as safety and building condition. A safe building is cool. But a cool safe building is even better. I am also, impressed by the operational improvements made to generate income. Some very creative and inspiring.

Best rental we ever had, totally recommend. The building is brand new and the management and maintenance are great. They are always doing touch ups on the hallways, making sure the common areas look good. Definitely recommend.

I love living in this building. Super spacious and beautiful apartment. The staff are super attentive. Really very good. In the summer the pool is super cool, there are always events. The neighbors are great. Anyway, everything is super cool.

The Smyth is such a wonderful holistic living community. Not only does it have beautiful apartments and amenities, but all of the people are great too. Residents are all friendly professionals, and the management is the best I've had in an apartment complex. I've had very few issues, but when I do they get addressed right away. I'm going to renew here as long as I am in Stamford CT

Best apartment experience I’ve had to date. Management is great, the amenities are awesome, and I’ve never had any serious issues with my unit. 10/10 would recommend if you can look past the high price point.

The Smyth has been great. Move in was easy and everything is expected. We have been taking advantage of all of the amenities so far. We love it here!

Building events are very creative and well planned out. Maintenance team communicates well and is hard working. The building is a terrific place to live.

From being shown the apartment to moving in to now being almost 2 months having stayed at Smyth, overall experience has been no less than seamless and beautiful. The location is fantastic, amenities are fabulous, people are courteous and staff is friendly.

Building amenities are so impressive - it feels like living in a hotel. Everything is always clean and if anything breaks/malfunctions it is addressed and fixed immediately.
