Property Ratings at The Retreat at Candelaria
My time living here was from Aug 2020 to 2024. The rent went up SO much every year I could not afford to save up to move out until now. If you want to pay rent online it's an extra 18% "convenience fee." These are just awful apartments; please do not live here. I can not get the office to reply to my emails or maintenance requests. In fact I submitted two just recently, they canceled one and marked the other as complete even though no one had stopped by. I pay a LOT per month to live here and I end up doing my own maintenance and spending my own money to fix appliance issues. Upon moving out I was tempted to take my light bulbs and fixtures I've put into the apartment. Every time I email the office a question it goes unanswered. I feel completely ignored by this place. The water is shut off CONSTANTLY, and at random times for "work repairs." I get about 3-4 emails a month about water shut-offs. The AC/Hot air is controlled by the apartments and they have the AC off from mid October to mid May. Yes, May as it's 80 degrees outside and it's even hotter inside. I had to get a fan so I wouldn't be sleeping in my own sweat. The apt I had had not overhead fan, no light in the bedroom, no washer/dryer. I paid too much for the apartment and did my own maintenance and had to pay for laundry. I had a BAD roach infestation in the kitchen and the office did nothing; I put down my own roach killer that worked. There was black mold in the bathroom. I'm in the process of moving out and I'm concerned about the hefty extra fees they may send my way. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE
Maintenance staff lack the ability and knowledge to fix any defective issues. Their professional response is “we’ll come tomorrow” and they never show up at expected and promised time. I’ve lived here for 2 years now, hoping for a positive change but continue to see very poor communication with staff and unprofessionalism. Do not live here or you’ll experience the countless vehicle break-ins, gun shot outs, water shut offs, maintenance smoking cigarettes in your apartment and smelling badly with cigarette smell. If you choose to live here, you’ll probably also get a chance to see a body bag like I did a year ago in front of the office. DO NOT RECOMMEND LIVING HERE OR CALLING THIS PLACE HOME! Staff is untrained, rude and unprofessional!
Please do not move in here. I am not sure who they paid to have a high rating on this website but it is not accurate. Go talk to any tennant. Daily water shut off, mold in walls, roach problem, poor security. PLEASE DO NOT MOVE HERE especially if you like running water.
I lived here for 3 years and every year there is a new set of management and staff. Staff right now seem to be decent, but the water here is continously shut off without notice and especially at 6pm. Washer and dryers do not run properly here and if a resident encounters a problem they have you call the 1-800 number on the washer & dryer. Even though it looks beautiful on the outside the appliances are very old unless living in an upgraded apartment. Crime here is moderate, multiple cars have been broken into and parking is crowded at night. They recently established a locked gate to get into the complex without notifying residents so on occasion I had to wait outside with groceries to be let in. As far as picking up parcels, packages the office does not accept them and you have to drive to the post office to pick up your items.

The worst apartment complex I’ve ever lived at. They do not care about their residents. Takes weeks to months to fix something. Charges secret fees in the end. So many times they were in the wrong and didn’t even bother to try to make it up. The worst experience ever.

They don't do the proper maintenance on the building. It may look clean upon touring, but they stick you in a room with mild and mildew and never actually take care of it despite constant maintenance requests. The staff is absolutely atrocious, as well. New management hut same people who are rude and cuss at their tenants.

The new management doesn’t care about anything but money. We had mold (not mildew) on our ceiling in the living room, I put a work order in and about 2 weeks later all they did was put caulk on it to cover it. I don’t think the “managers” have been trained properly because of how rude and uneducated they are about the leasing process and basically everything else. The property manager will cuss you out if you come to them with a problem and it’s honestly crazy how these people are still employed...They once sent me a bill for pet damage..I don’t even own a pet. Just save yourself a headache and don’t rent here..

The Management in this apartment complex is in desperate need of renovation. The majority of the people working there lack basic customer service skills and are plain rude. It’s unacceptable.
If I could give 0 stars I would. The way this place is run is absolutely disgusting and despicable. Ignoring the damages, mold, and cleanliness overall, the management is absolutely corrupt. NO respect for residents, or frankly, anyone who they come in contact with. This place should be ashamed of their staff. It's great that you're under new management and want to promote a new image, but that's not going to happen if you keep the same awful staff that are the ones actually talking to the paying consumers. Appalled at how several people I know were treated by this establishment. Not even sure how it is legal that they are still operating.

The indoors and amenities are good compared to others in the area for the price you pay. I actually really loved the place when i first moved in w/ my bf. But I did have a few sketchy encounters outside the apartment at night. I agree with the other reviewer, there needs to be some more lighting. Also, most of the people working in the office are immature. Remind me of the mean girls from back in high school! Not surprised they’ve caused drama with others based on the looks they gave me and the snide comments I overheard. Glad to be back in my home state with better choices!
This place has the worst service and management staff. They have been nothing but rude and unapologetic.
Any kind of amenities provided do not make up for the poor management!! To live in a place as such where you run the risk of being treated so disgustingly by those who run the establishment is not worth it in the slightest. Rude, unprofessional, and a disgrace to the business. Please, skip this place!

I've lived here for about a year now. Is the community perfect? Of course not! No community can be unless it's a recently built one. I have enjoyed my stay and will renew my lease. ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS . . . Get your own perspective when shopping around. Reviews for most people are just a venting area and stories are always one sided.
I have lived at this complex for almost a year now. This is my first apartment experience. Where do I start there are many many things wrong with these apartments, to much to rant about but these are the main things. They are very dark at night, there's little to no parking, you can smell weed through the ventilation system, the staff know a little to much about there tenants personal info. I constantly feel like I'm being watched by there maintenance, there are homeless people sleeping by the duck pound because its so dark and the police are here almost every night. I am sometimes afraid when I have to walk from our car to apartment in the dark since the lighting in these apartments are so poor, like walking by the really dark dumpsters (which we have seen people go behind to do god knows what) . I really would not recommend these apartments to anyone with a family or those who get off of work late
