With its brick-paved streets, ancient oak trees laced with moss, palm trees, and growing arts scene, Tampa Heights is one of Tampa's most-loved neighborhoods -- it is also one of its oldest. Residents seeking a little distance from downtown (less than a mile) settled Tampa Heights in the early 1800s. They could easily reach the city center on foot, making Tampa Heights the ideal first "suburb." Today, Tampa Heights is a National Historic District with an annual Tour of Homes. This artistic, trendy community is experiencing a boom -- more and more businesses are moving to the area, including art galleries, coffee shops, and breweries. And while it is more "downtown" than "suburb," Tampa Heights still manages to provide plenty of natural beauty and old-world charm.
Head to the Hillsborough River on the south side of the neighborhood and enjoy an afternoon at Water Works Park, a riverside water park located along the Tampa Riverwalk.
