First developed in 1891 as a streetcar suburb, Hyde Park has become one of the most densely-populated areas in the city. With many historic buildings in its two historic districts, the neighborhood enjoys a charming beauty, with sites like the Queen Anne style Col. Monroe M. Shipe House and the Elisabet Ney Museum.
Hyde Park sits directly north of the University of Texas at Austin, with I-35 running along the eastern border. On the west side, residents have easy access to a variety of shops, including Central Market, and the Heart Hospital of Austin. The university is home to four museums, including the Blanton Museum of Art. Sports fans can cheer on the Longhorns at nearby the Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Property Ratings at The Jacksonian
If I could give negative stars for The Jacksonian, I would. DO NOT LIVE HERE. This place is uninhabitable, mainly because I have had a rat problem they have no interest in solving. I saw a rat in my apartment and had to fight to get them to send out pest control and it was a huge headache. Management is horrible and does not care. There isn't even management for the property, they are overseen by Fairway Properties (FP) and anytime you need anything done you have to go through at least a 5 minute process to talk to someone who "may be able to do something". My rat trap caught a rat and I had to fight FP to send someone out to come get it and ended up having a neighbor help me. This place is very outdated, no one has a dishwasher and I don't even have a garbage disposal. As previously stated, the communal washer/dryer NEVER work and one time flooded on me. Also, there is no security (cameras or guard) and residents including myself have had amazon packages and other things stolen from our doorsteps. Yet again, FP does not care and does nothing to change or make this better. This place is a rat hole and a NIGHTMARE to live in. In fact, I'm reporting them to the city because of the rodent issue here making the place unlivable for several residents here including myself.
Against my best judgement, I'm going on two years at The Jacksonians. There is one thing going on for this place and that's the location. Hyde Park is nice, HEB is close, and it's close to downtown. However, that's really all this place has going for it. Let me just list off the negative things about this place: -Washer/Dryer have never worked, and the apartment management is tried of our complaints that they just placed a flyer in the laundry room saying that it's not their fault but the 3rd party that handles it. The same vendor services the place next door and they don't have any issues. -There's a rat problem, and while they do send exterminators out, they just place mouse traps. The rats just end up moving from apartment to apartment. -The Grill has never had gas, only half of the lights in the courtyard work, and they're slow to respond to maintenance requests. -The interior of each apartment is old, and they haven't done any updates. While this isn't the worst thing, for the price of rent here, you can get a better maintained apartment in the same area. In the two years that I've lived here, only 3 people stayed and renewed their lease, while everyone else left. It's not all completely bad, but it's mediocre at best. I would only move into this place if you really needed to be in Hyde Park for some reason and all other places were taken.
