Property Ratings at The Harrison Somerset Apartment Homes
The apartment quality is not worth their rent prices. The maintenance here is horrendous. On several occasions I’ve caught the maintenance crew looking through the garbage tenants throw out. The plumbing is horrible. My unit has flooded twice. Six months later and they still have not addressed the bubbled paint and now mold in the bathroom. The paint on the tub is chipping, I was told when I moved in my unit was on the list for a replacement. It’s been four years and still nothing. The tub now fills with water and debris from the pipes daily. The elevators are frequently out of service. Overall this place is a nightmare. Save yourself the headache and avoid all Oxford Realty properties.
If you want to know about this apartments, look no further than how they keep their property. There is a constant flow of trash in their front and back areas, despite being alongside the river and forest preserve. It is not uncommon broken glass or random trash floating around what would other wise be a beautiful outdoor area complete with open field, dog park, playground, fire pits and grills, and a pool. The building has a beautiful view of the sunset and presumably the sunrise and has great nearby restaurants. It also has its own gym that's not bad. It's really a shame they don't really care about how their property is maintained. Regular fliers appear in the elevators demanding change from the managers.
I am renting a Studio. It's pretty good in size, appliances and it has a great view from the balcony on Raritan River and SHI Rutgers stadium. Just 5 minutes walking from Johnson park. Very nice and helpful staff. Extremely secure place.
My apartment is fairly nice but when things go wrong, boy do they. Balcony dividers for multiple apartments broken since 2/2020. It’s now 10/2020. Elevators are often broken, if you come home between 5 and 7, be prepared to wait a while. They often take 3-4 days (or never) respond to email inquiries. Maintenance requests take almost a week to complete, even for the simplest things. I’ve actually taken to going to Home Depot and grabbing the things I need if they’re not too expensive. The pool NEVER opens on time in the summer. It’s always at least two weeks late. Since the new company took over, the grounds are always dirty. The dog run is unusable as people leave dog mess down. They also nickel and dime for everything, fee to bill our water now along with trash, sewer and “asset protection”. Oh and they’ll charge you a $350 amenity fee but expect you to pay for guests to use the pool now.
This place is all around pretty awful and over priced. The Management of the building has changed 3 times over the past 2 years and they are all horrible and no one knows what is going on. They nickel and dime you for everything trash parking paying rent online im not sure exactly that else they could charge you for at this point. Also, your electric bill in the winter will be about 400 if not more last month was $513 with these temperatures we have been having. Not worth the cost to live here and deal with the slow elevators that smell like dogs.

Valerie introduced me to a studio with an alcove and I LOVE it. If you ever come to look at an apartment, ask for her! Totally helped us out, she was the best. The location is perfect. If you turn left you are minutes from downtown and night life, turn right you are minutes from low key restaurants, grocery, and shops (the essentials). the price of living here is considerably less expensive than all the other places around here. I moved in when they changed to new management, and the amenities are awesome...we get a brand new gym and pool...everyone got new energy efficient windows and sliding glass doors, so the electric bill is nothing like it used to be from people living here in a the past. take it from someone who lives here currently, best choice.
This place is great. Spacious apartments, perfect location to College ave campus ( 5 min drive), quite with all the amenities needed for a well-balanced like. I'm renting a two bedroom and it has more than enough space. Lots of closets, a large master bedroom and a second bed room. Both bathrooms are spacious, one has a tub, the other a standing shower. The kitchen is a decent size but the living room/den/dinning room more than make up for the smaller kitchen space. The building has 24/7 door staff, which is a great feature. The staff here is professional and very nice. I had a loose door knob when I moved in and it was fixed the same day. Theres also a pool, gym, club house, dog park, assigned parking. What more could you ask for? This building is wonderful for Rutgers professionals and families.
A great apartment in the midst of the fun filled Rutgers college town. Very helpful staff and extremely secure. If you want to get the best of both worlds - bustling city life and quiet suburban living, this is the place to be. With a newly opened pool and basketball courts, minutes from New Brunswick station and close proximity to parks and stores, you simply can't go wrong with the Harrison!
I've currently resided in my one-bedroom apartment at the Harrison for 3 months. I'll separate my review into pros and cons to better compare the pluses and minuses of my experience living here so far: Pros: 1. spacious rooms 2. close to night life/food options 3. plenty of parking for both residents and visitors (option to park in deck for monthly fee as well) 4. in-ground pool 5. small gym on first floor 6. playground and sandbox for children 7. enclosed area for dogs 8. balcony included with every apartment 9. free extermination services 10. offered 1 month free rent with 12 month contract 11. service/maintenance requests are tended to quickly 12. garbage chute/recycling available on every floor 13. large laundry room on ground floor 14. different apartment sizes to choose from (studio, one-bed, two-bed) 15. electric bill has been extremely low 16. employee present at front desk 24/7 17. grills available in pool area 18. several picnic tables by playground Cons: 1. a lot of construction/renovating has been going on lately 2. service elevator for moving things in can only be reserved 4 hours at a time and only from 9AM - 5PM 3. lock-out fee to be let into apartment (typical of most apt buildings though) 4. shallow depth of kitchen shelves 5. only one drawer in kitchen (true of one-bedroom) 6. have found silverfish and a couple of small roaches in apartment but I also live next to the garbage room 7. have to make left-hand turn across traffic if coming from Somerset 8. tight angle to move furniture into bedroom 9. fee to have pets 10. pool has not been opened for the summer due to construction 11. gym is only cardio machines and free-weights Overall I have had a positive experience so far and the pros have outweighed the cons. As a college student, I love that it is extremely close to school. I am definitely hoping to keep the apartment after graduation.
I really like this Place. 287 highway is close by for commuting. Great places to see and visit like restaurants, theaters, and parks. Very peaceful and friendly atmosphere. Everyone is friendly. Management is on top of things. Staff are very professional and helpful. What truly made me like this place even more was how quite it is, you do not hear any noise from other tenants. You have a pool with spacious court yard and trees that give you that outdoors look like you're at a resort club. There is a gym with state of the art equipment just like in fitness centers with TV and music. I have been going to the Gym and have gotten in shape and feel great. Best decision ever choosing this place.
