In many ways, Arlington’s Clarendon/Courthouse neighborhood leads a double life. On the one hand, the mix of upscale single-family homes and swanky apartments combined with the super-convenient access to Washington (just a mile away and served by multiple Metro stops) make this an ideal location for DC-area commuters seeking a more suburban home environment. The abundance of parks and playgrounds reflects the family-friendly nature of the community, and the local public schools are among the best in the region. Parts of the neighborhood also contain several corporate high-rises, giving many folks the option of walking to work.
However, Clarendon/Courthouse also has a lively, fun side. The neighborhood is generally known as the nightlife capital of Arlington – the robust bar and club scene along Clarendon Avenue attracts partiers from across the DC area on weekends.

Property Ratings at Swansen Apartments
Excellent location. Great for cat lovers. Parking spot and most utilities included in rent. I am so happy I found this place. Responsive management. Tons of natural light. It’s an older place, but it’s well maintained and if you’re someone who works in DC and want a shorter commute, you will not go wrong living here.
Loved living in one of the studio units at Swansen apartments. The space got great light, and had a good amount of storage space for a small unit. The management is lovely to work with, responds quickly to any issues, and is very understanding. Location is great, right on the 38B bus line, and most locations in Courthouse and Rosslyn are walkable.
I have lived at the Swansen Apartments for almost three years in both their one bedroom apartments and a studio apartment and I definitely recommend living here! The apartments are older but updated, they have hardwood floors and get a lot of natural light. The rent is super affordable for the location near the metro and in comparison to any of the buildings nearby. Management is transparent about costs and doesn't charge extra for things like parking or to have a pet (cats only). They respond quickly to maintenance requests and the maintenance team has always been very friendly! Earlier this year I wanted to downsize into a studio apartment and the manager, Katherine made signing a new lease quick and painless. It's a great place to live!
Swansen Apartments has been the best apartment I've had since moving to NOVA. I've lived in both the studios and 1-bedroom apartments. Both were well maintained, quiet, and perfectly located. Any time I've needed maintenance the response has been prompt and executed without any fuss, even on the weekends. The office manager is so nice. I've never had a bad experience with the office for any concern or negotiation. They're willing to work with you and that was a big plus for me. It's nice to feel like they know you and want to get to know their tenants. Location wise, these apartments are perfectly located. It's walking distance to two metros, several bus stops, restaurants, shops, and landmarks.
Swanson provides great management and quick fixes to any maintenance issues. The apartment itself is a perfect size for my partner and I and it has huge windows for our cat! My important to us, it is super convenient to the metro, route 50, the grocery store, and many gyms. Overall a great starter apartment for anyone young moving to the area.
A cheaper spot in the area but it’s very obvious why if you tour any of the other apartments in the area. Swansen is pretty old, no amenities at all, and the neighbors above you are SO LOUD because of the hardwood floors. It’s ridiculous. You can hear every step and the people I heard above me today are using a sewing machine.... yea. I toured about 10 apartments in the area, and my friend had chosen to live at Swansen because it was the cheapest. I will not be choosing to live at Swansen. I’ll pay an extra $100 a month for a much better apartment, garage parking, and amenities..... oh, and some QUIET. Unless you are on a ridiculously tight budget, I’d take the loss in money for the gain in quality of life.
This flat is by far one of the least expensive apartments in such a great area. The building with the Junior 1 Bedroom apartments is a five minute walk from the Rosslyn metro and has easy access to main highways. It's a quiet neighborhood on the edge of a park. The apartment itself is beautiful with wood floors and real tile in the kitchen and bathrooms. I didn't think the pictures did it justice. One feature I was pleasantly surprised by was that the drawers are a fancy self-closing kind. However, most importantly, the management is great. They respond quickly to even the smallest request for a repair. The only slight con is that there is only one small window unit, which can struggle to keep the two room flat with so many windows cool in the middle of summer. Also, the laundry costs 2 dollars (in quarters) per use, but at least it's in good working order.
I've lived in Swansen Apartments for years. The management is EXTREMELY responsive - most requests or issues are taken care of immediately (i.e. within an hour to a day or two). The location is also great - close to the Courthouse metro - and you can also walk downhill to the Rosslyn metro to catch both metro lines (blue/orange). Industrial size washer and dryers are in the basement and are coin operated ($2 a load). Rent inreased substancially after a new family member took over the business, but it's now been steady for several years. I'd definitely recommend these apartments to a friend.
