White Plains, located 25 miles north of Midtown Manhattan, combines city conveniences with suburban living. The revitalized downtown features high-rise apartment communities and The Westchester mall, anchored by Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. The rental market reflects the area's desirability, with current average rents ranging from $2,663 for studios to $4,289 for three-bedroom apartments. A 31-minute express train service to Grand Central Terminal makes White Plains an ideal choice for Manhattan commuters.
Known as "The Birthplace of New York State," White Plains preserves its Revolutionary War heritage at sites like the Jacob Purdy House, while embracing contemporary living. Saxon Woods Park offers residents a golf course and swimming pool, while Mamaroneck Avenue serves as the heart of downtown dining and shopping. The White Plains Performing Arts Center and the weekly farmers' market add to the community's appeal.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Stepping Stones
the apartment is infested. every single day i would come to multiple mice in the kitchen traps. roaches covering the counter top. i kept my apartment emulate and never had any food or crumbs lying around. management was of no help. building was dirty. always mountains of trash by the dumpsters. there is a reason they are usually cheaper than surrounding buildings. i thought it was too good to be true and i was correct.
I’ve lived at 125 lake street for well over 3 years and you literally get what you pay for. Management is horrible, the worst and do not value you as a tenant or human really. Often times people who live there are low income families, so management completely disrespects the residents. I’ve had terrible experiences with all matters regarding repairs, roaches, and even returning security deposits. They will absolutely try to withhold your security deposit when you leave. Best advice is think twice before living there.
This building is slightly above average. It is about 1 mile from all malls and a major train station which you can walk to and from depending on the weather. The building has parking which can be hard to get in this area. There are also laundry machines on every floor which is also very convenient. Apartments are spacious and neighbors are respectful in terms of noise, although the walls are pretty thin. One down side is that I have witnessed rodents in the building, however, the landlord is attentive and will respond to your complaints by the next day. The elevators also occasionally have issues which can be inconvenient when you live on the top floor.
