Property Ratings at Spruce Hall
Please save yourself the trouble of dealing with this apartment. There is a mouse problem in the building. When I lived here, I heard a stampede of mice in the ceiling above me in my bedroom. I saw a mouse crawling on the shelf in my kitchen, mice coming out of the bedroom and living room radiators, mouse droppings in a closet, and a mouse running under my stove. This continued even after reporting my concerns to management and taking every action I could to keep mice away (keeping my food in a plastic box, setting traps, and asking the apartment pest control to come several times). The maintenance failed to adequately seal an opening in my closet where I had heard mice come from, even after I had raised concerns about the opening being an entry point for mice. I firmly believe that this is a building-wide issue that the management knows about but refuses to take real action on. Once per week pest control (that cannot come more often, so wait times can be up to 7 days), where they stuff steel wool in the wall openings, is not enough to address the problem. I spoke to someone in the building who had trapped 12-15 mice in their apartment. That is not normal. A damp, musty smell in the entire building is not normal. Continuing to see mice after several rounds of pest control coming is not normal. A closet panel being "secured" shut partially with clear tape is not normal. Please do not try to tell yourself that these things are normal; they are not. Everyone deserves to live in an apartment free of pests with management that cares to fix real issues, and this apartment does not provide that. Please do not move here.
The building is terrible in sound proof. The leasing office is not able to guarantee a basic livable environment at nights. There is big trouble tenant in the building, playing loud rock n roll music day and night, lifting heavy weights in the apt. Neighbors suffered from this trouble tenant for a long time, and need to be alert for dropping weights which could happen anytime during sleep hours. Complaints were sent to the office, but the noise never stops.
