More problems than parking spaces

What fool decided it was a good idea to switch payment processors RIGHT BEFORE payment was due, cancelling all auto-payments? Management seems to care, until there is actually a problem. BOTH systems should've worked this month, or WAIT until the start of the new billing period. But in typical Slate fashion, they did it in the worst way possible - drop the update with no prior warning or notice. Bad at overall communication. "Amenities" are constantly broken, elevators barely work - their solution is that we have stairs. Amenities used to be 24 hours and have been reduced drastically, (others being completely removed). Maintenance requests go unanswered, doors don't work, door handles around the property are falling off. BASIC upkeep is not hard, and would be nice. Parking is beyond ridiculous. Their "solution" is to charge RESIDENTS to park. Surrounding properties tow anyone that parks there from Slate. If you have a car (or friends) and are thinking about moving here, seriously, SERIOUSLY consider whether you want to put up with this mess. Take a look around the property and count the number of uncovered spots, you can easily do that before even attempting to talk to the office. This "gated community" isn't really gated at all -they are constantly either just wide open, or completely broken. All doors usually just remain unlocked (I am surprised I haven't encountered homeless people sleeping under the stairs, but imagine getting home late at night and someone popping out). Police are here at least a few times a month. Apparently someone went crazy with a gun recently - no word from mgmnt. We went through a period where the fire alarms would randomly go off, to the point when you heard the fire alarm it didn't even phase you because it was so frequent. Well, apparently someone's kitchen caught on fire in close proximity to my unit, and there was NO FIRE ALARM - just tons of smoke and firetrucks. When I brought this up to management, they scoffed and acted like it was no big deal. WHAT? ENDLESS NOISE from projects starting as early as 6:45AM. Constant contractors all over the place, taking up the few parking spaces that there are, and making tons of noise. Management also apparently hires the cheapest laborers they can find - the work these people do is totally suboptimal. Paint jobs look like finger art, yet management keeps hiring the same bargain labor. Lousy communication, broken amenities, no security, endless fees, and zero accountability.

Slate Scottsdale is a beautiful property nestled into an urban oasis. I see mountains and nature in every direction I look. I can wake up and be at any type of shopping or leisurely activity within minutes. I equally can wake up and be submersed into nature. The front part of slate sets into the beautiful North Scottsdale night life while the back half is a preserved and protected nature area that brings a lot of tranquility to all of our busy lives. After touring Slate, I knew immediately I’d be proceeding. It was one of those decisions you did not need to second guess. I’ve moved in and paid rent a couple times since, I always get this “money well spent” feeling afterwards. With renting being my largest line item in life, waking up and going to sleep happy is priceless.

I moved into Slate Apartments a month ago and I couldn't be happier. To start off, working with Linda and Diamond was first class. Both were very friendly and accommodating. And I am so happy with the remodel of the apartment... the place looks great! Management also reimbursed me for a little inconvenience I experienced on move-in day. They didn't even have to do it! And lastly, twice I've had them come and fix things in my apartment (the place just got remodeled and minor stuff) and the maintenance staff was just fantastic! In fact all the employees here are fantastic. Highly recommend!!

This place has gone from the greatest spot in North Scottsdale to the worst! They changed all the colors, all the rules, increased the rent, never fix things that residents like to use, and only make it look pretty for new residents. They really screwed this place up!

DO NOT MOVE HERE

DO NOT MOVE HERE if you enjoy quality quite peaceful time. Complex plays music 9 hours a day, which I can hear in my bedroom and my balcony. The complex installed speakers all throughout the courtyard and they play hiphop music from 9am to 9pm 7 days a week 365 days a year. We can’t enjoy the the courtyard without being blasted with loud bass, I can’t have a phone call on my balcony, I can’t leave my windows cracked, I can’t go on a walk and listen to the birds sing, only annoying music like in s shopping mall. I complained about this and the community manager said that they like it and try to keep "UPBEAT". Are we in a hotel in Vegas? What about people who work late nights or just want to read a book at the pool without blasting music? What can we do? We pay for amenities but can never be in silence. I must be forced to listen to their playlist all the time. Additionally, in your home you have a reasonable right to peace. Sometimes this cannot be helped like if your neighbor has a baby or small children, but playing music is something they are deliberately doing and causing you to not be able to sleep should not be allowed. Maybe it was the idea of the community manager and they like it, but surely their residents will be unhappy with this. Sometimes people have bad ideas. So think twice before you sign the lease!

Bad

I’ve been living here for 6 years and one year is worse than the other. However, I want to highlight one issue in particular. I live close to the leasing office, and the carbon monoxide alarm is beeping for over 12 days already. I can’t sleep and it is causing me issues in my daily routine. I notified it to the leasing office, and there’s still no solution…

Pros and Cons of Living

First off, I’d like to say that I did like living here and it was easy to move-in/move-out with having access to an elevator. With it being newly remodeled, I got the chance to get new appliances such as washer/dryer, fridge, oven, and microwave. It was nice to have valet trash to pick up your trash for you, but it constantly smelled throughout the hall ways. Another downfall, if you like to have people over, there is no guest parking. There is about 10 uncovered spaces for guest and that includes the parking areas by the main leasing office. I can’t tell you how many times I had guest park at the Lifetime across the street or the apartment complex next door that has unlimited uncovered parking. Before I left, they sent out a statement saying that anyone who uses the amenities, such as the pool, gym, or club house will be stopped by the security guard to check ID’s after leasing office hours. On top of that, they let us know that only two guest per person in the household were able to use the amenities. I understand why they had said that since people don’t clean up after themselves, but it’s a home that we want to feel comfortable having people over. Last but not least, thin walls on the ceiling. If you’re not living on the 4th floor or loft, you will hear people walking like elephants or vacuuming or moving furniture. Overall, it was a great experience to live there and meet some of my neighbors. I think this will give you some perspective if you want to live here or not.

Convenient location, modern amenities and excellent management.

Convenient location, modern amenities and excellent management. Overall I have been renting for the past five years and out of which the past two years with Slate Scottsdale has been the best. Always welcoming and responsive front office staff. Swift maintenance team, never had an issue that was not addressed within 24 hours of raising the request.

Safety Concerns

This apartment complex was recently acquired by Avenue5 (see older reviews of complex on the Slate- Mark Taylor page) at the start of 2022. Construction has been ongoing across the complex since they took over...including a renovation to the apartment directly above me. Master keys are given to construction workers and Avenue5 Executives who are viewing the newly renovated apartments, and on at least 4 occasions workers entered my apartment with the master key thinking it was the apartment directly above me. I have complained multiple times to the office that this is a breach of my security, but the intrusions keep happening. The construction is far from done, so I guess I'm to expect more instances of complete strangers walking into my apartment. Not to mention the construction noise....

My Forever Home

I recently moved to the Slate Scottsdale from Houston TX and am in my forever home. I love it !!!! The staff are the BEST ever and so many amenities. I researched several complexes and know that I made the CORRECT decision in SLATE SCOTTSDALE. One small negative (not enough visitor parking). . .There must be a positive solution to this minor inconvenience right SLATE ????

Great Price and Location

I’ll keep it short - since moving in late April, everything has been great. I heard some stories from existing residents, but they said it has since been better with the new Manager. Sometimes it gets a little rowdy at the pool. Overalll, very clean and great price for what you get. Pool/ Amenity is one of the best in N. Scottsdale.

Beware of this place

This complex seems great at first but really it's a nightmare. The management is terrible. The parking is a joke, you have to park some place else and Uber home and there's smelly trash everywhere. Move anywhere but here. Mark Taylor has done a terrible job managing this place. Beware.

Excellent Amenities and Location

This property has one of the nicest clubhouse/pool areas around North Scottsdale. The clubhouse has a full kitchen, gigantic big screen tv with all the channels, that leads out to a pool area/patio. Honestly feels like a high-end resort/hotel. The staff is always friendly and helpful. It was recently taken over by Mark Taylor, which has a fantastic track record. Free coffee/latte's/hot chocolate all day, every day! Extremely convenient to my work down the street and 101 for easy access. I can't complain.
