Me and my wife have lived at SCIO the past three years and have loved it. The management and maintenance team are all so friendly and very attentive to the few issues we have had. The building is great with plenty of amenities especially being a student they have many great study areas. There is also lots of great food options walking distance on Taylor street! The staff and management at SCIO supersede my expectations for living here. This is an old building so it’s tough to make things run smoothly all the time. But this current staff takes immediate care of any issues I’ve had, whether it’s garbage that has dispersed on the lawn after a windy day or turning up the fire pit on a cold day.

I love living at Scio for many reasons, but the one I want to focus on is cleanliness. The swimming pool is the cleanest pool I have ever seen and the lobby, gym, and common areas are spotless thanks to fantastic engineering, maintenance, and management staff. In fact when my brother visits, he prefers the building restroom to my bathroom because he says it’s cleaner!

Anonymous resident: I remember years ago when I needed to move to Chicago for my job and was searching for rentals near my workplace. I finally scheduled a virtual tour with Scio, and it was love at first sight with my unit during a video call! I read the reviews online and was hoping that I wouldn't encounter any problems and would have a good stay here. So far, I have a very positive sense of my experience at Scio thanks to my renovated and attractive unit, beautiful lobby and amenities, nice pool area and back garden/walkway, access to the pool and gym, responsive guard, management and maintenance, and friendly neighbors, the majority of whom are medical or engineering trainees from the nearby university and hospital.

Scio thinks about residents as flesh-covered bags of money. Expect your rent to skyrocket every year. Also expect to have maintenance problems all the time, at least monthly. There will regularly be water dripping from pipes in the ceiling near the lobby.

Scio is well located if one needs to work at the Engineering dpt of UIC. The neighbourhood is nice and the studio is fine. The amenities of Scio and the common spaces are pleasant. The only downside of the studio are the windows that are not that easy to open and close to have some fresh air inside from time to time.

You will regret it. Worst apartment ever, everything breaks easily, and when you move out, you will be charged a large amount for the stupidest things. Prices are way too high, and it doesn't even account for all of the extra things they charge you for rent, so expect to pay 100 to 200 more. People will sometimes take your clothes out of the dryer, they will steal your packages, and the management office wont care. The elevators are also always broken too but if you lived on the second floor, you will deal with floods. Do not move here.
Good location for students at UIC or RUSH. Many amenities, good pool area and grills. Good appliances on the units. Few issues with AC but solvable. Recommended after one year living here.

SCIO is a great community to live in, located in the medical district, in walking distance to several universities/medical centers, especially, perfect for health care workers/students and resident physicians. Great amenities including gym and pool, nice backyard green spaces for walking and enjoying the weather outside.

It's a great, comfortable, convenient place to stay in. The air conditioning system however needs tremendous improvement and that's a major drawback of staying here considering the amount of rent we pay.

The location, safety, and overall environment is good. The maintenance team and front desk are professional. The laundry room maintenance and the 1st floor's bugs inspection need to be improved.

During the spring and fall months, the building is in full control of when the air conditioning is turned on and off. This results in THREE to FOUR week periods where your unit will be above 85 degrees for the entirety of the day. I have never felt less important and cheated than I have living in this building. Live somewhere else!!!! Don’t give them your money

We understand how frustrating this season can be when the outside temperature fluctuates so drastically, and are happy to report that we have switched to our AC setting for the season. The transition to A/C is typically completed in May before the ordinance date of June 1, weather permitting. A City of Chicago Ordinance requires all residential communities to provide temperatures above 66 degrees in the evening and 68 in the day from September 15 until May 31 every year. This past week we had temperatures in the 50’s and that prevented us from switching to A/C sooner. Please let us know if you are still experiencing these warmer temperatures today. We sincerely appreciate your patience during this spring to summer transition.
Lived here for a full year. Can easily say is was one of the best living experiences I've had. Worked in the medical district so the location was super convenient - walked to work every morning. And so close to west loop (often walked there for drinks / dinner), and a block away from a train line that takes you straight to the west loop and into the loop in 10 mins. The building itself was really nice. Its an older building structure but the renovations are really tasteful, with great amenities. We had a unit with giant windows and a balcony so the light was great. Equivalent to nice buildings I've seen in the loop or west loop, but at a much better price. A few small things were definetely on the older side (screen doors didn't slide smoothly, water pressure on top floor isn't the best, etc.) but anything problematic was quickly addressed. The management here was superb, incredibly responsive and really really friendly. Any time we had a maintenance issue, they responded immediately, usually fixing the problem the same day. There is always someone on the premises (management during the day and doorman at night) so that helps if there are any issues. The maintenance guys take a lot of pride in their work, keep the building spotless and are always willing to help. The pool is lovely, the gym has all the equipment one would need, there is pool and ping pong in the lobby, and there are work rooms / conference rooms. The building guests are really friendly (a lot of med students) and there are often little gatherings happening by the pool and lobby. Parking is readily available and reasonably priced. If I were staying in Chicago, I would 100% live here again.

The location is ideal for health professionals working/going to school in the Chicago medical district! You just can't beat it. The amenities at SCIO are high quality, the facility is always clean, well heated in the winter and the security and administrative staff are always kind, helpful and constantly striving for improvement. Thus far, I have loved my apartment at SCIO, it is truly a home and a wonderful community of people and I am so grateful for the opportunity to live here!

For me location is so perfect. Around hospital and colledge yes there are many place to live. I took lots of time to look for the house. But Price, convenience, maintenence, safety wise here is the best. everything lot better than any others. So i decided to live here. Here people are nice and peace. I am very happy here.
I stayed here will on a travel assignment this Summer and loved it! The apartments are very spacious with a breath taking view of the city. The leasing office staff are very helpful. If you work at one of the local hospitals this is just a quick walk to work each day.

Medical District Apartments by Habitat company are one of the safest and coolest places to live around Chicago with perfect location surrounded by several bus stops and train station, all kinds of cuisines, grocery and shopping centers and finally some of the coolest bars in Chicago. It's closeness to Chicago downtown brings immense happiness while the layer of isolation keeps you peaceful all day long. Amenities like swimming pool, indoor gym and wi-fi enabled business center, bike storage and on sire maintenance just cannot let you stay anywhere else. I've been staying here for 2 years and never felt like leaving this homely place.

This apartment building's location is ideal for anyone looking to be within walking distance to the medical district. The maintenance staff is awesome and always available to fill your requests. Quiet but friendly environment to live in with plenty of great features such as a pool, community grills, fitness center, business center with computers, concierge, and laundry in the building (not in unit). They provide garage parking but it is an extra cost. Rent is a little high but the amenities are very nice for the area. If you are looking for a safe and convenient environment to live in near the medical district, I highly suggest looking into MDA. The office staff is very helpful and every month they try to do something fun for all the residents.
