Close to New Hampshire, 40 minutes north of Boston and nestled along the shores of the Atlantic, the Outer North Shore neighborhood awaits you in the town of Essex. Providing rural living with plenty of water-related activities and located amongst other historically popular North Shore communities, the Outer North Shore neighborhood remains a desirable destination for retirees, married couples and even some families.
All that yearn to be near the ocean and close to Boston can have the best of both worlds residing in Outer North Shore. With a lower cost of living, waterfront properties and modern day conveniences, the neighborhood appeals to ex-Bostonians, who often head here to live in a quieter community.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Newburyport Crossing
The apartment complex is new and well kept. The staff is responsive, Kevin the maintenance man is great. On the rare occasion something in my apartment needs fixing, it's repaired quickly and perfectly. Very dog friendly. There's a pretty good sense of community.
Property Manager at Newburyport Crossing, Responded To This Review
Thank you for sharing your experience! We’re so glad to hear you’re enjoying the community and that Kevin and the team have been able to provide prompt and reliable service. It’s wonderful to know you appreciate the dog-friendly environment and the sense of community here—we love seeing residents and their pets feel right at home. We’re grateful to have you as part of our community!
Of the many apartments I’ve lived in across Massachusetts, this one has been the most disappointing. The rent is higher than comparable North Shore properties, yet the soundproofing is extremely poor — every toilet flush, dog bark, or footstep from neighbors is audible. Commuter rail noise is also constant for residents on the front side of the building. Management does not address these issues effectively, which makes it difficult to fully enjoy your home. Hosting friends, pursuing hobbies, or keeping early/late hours often results in pushback. The leasing staff do not clearly represent fees and costs. Utilities such as heating and cooling are described as “included,” but tenants are responsible for the full cost aside from repairs. The front office is generally unhelpful, while maintenance staff are excellent but unfortunately not the face of the property. Facilities are also lacking: no trash chute, only a single slow elevator, undersized washers and dryers, and no ventilation in bathrooms or kitchens. These design choices add inconvenience to daily life. Overall, the property fails to deliver value for the rent charged, and I would not recommend it.

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We’re sorry to hear your experience hasn’t met expectations and that noise, communication, and amenities have been ongoing frustrations. While we’re glad our maintenance team has made a positive impression, we recognize that’s only part of the overall living experience. Your comments about transparency, facilities, and noise concerns will be reviewed with our team so we can identify areas for improvement. Would you please consider coming in for a meeting with our management? Thank you.
