The northern Austin suburb of Highland has seen a lot of recent development in the last few years. What was once an area of mid-century homes and a mall has become a community of diverse housing options and is home to a vibrant community college campus. Solar panels are a common site on renovated ranch-style homes, as are a number of new apartment complexes.
You’ll find plenty of dining options on North Lamar Blvd., including poke, ramen, and the country cooking at Threadgill’s. The Linc is a popular open-air mall on the eastern border of the area that houses an upscale movie theater, big-box stores, and some popular local eateries too. The Highland campus of Austin Community College helped revitalize the area and adds to the area’s already highly-rated school system.
Highland has become an increasingly popular community due to the recent developments as well as the commute times. The drive to Downtown Austin takes just around 20 minutes with the I-35 and Airport Blvd.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Medina Highlands
’ve had an awesome experience at Medina Highlands! The staff is super friendly and always quick to help. My apartment was spotless when I moved in—honestly the best move-in I’ve ever had. I mainly use the study room and gym, and both are always clean and well taken care of. The gym is great, and I really appreciate that it has a squat rack! I mostly keep to myself, but I’ve genuinely enjoyed living here—and I just renewed my lease for another year!
Property Manager at Medina Highlands, Responded To This Review
Thank you so much for the kind words! We're thrilled to hear that you've had such a positive experience at Medina Highlands. Our team works hard to make sure every resident feels at home, so it means a lot to hear that your move-in was smooth and that you’re enjoying the amenities—especially the gym and study room! We’re so glad you’ve decided to renew your lease with us for another year. If there’s ever anything you need, don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re always happy to help. Here’s to another great year at Medina Highlands!
Don't move in. Property management shows no willingness to help or do anything and not responsive. Excessively loud stomping, thudding, furniture dragging and things dropping on the floors constantly from upper stairs neighbor ALL the time from as early as 6 AM due to cheap build and thin floors. Property manager started from forcing us to provide video recordings and after we did refuses to admit any noise after months of complaints, security patrol calls and police reports. Packages got stolen. Got responded with an email basically saying "use Fetch" when they have a security camera in place.
Property Manager at Medina Highlands, Responded To This Review
Hi, there. This is definitely not the experience that we strive to create for our residents. We care a great deal about our residents and are committed to doing everything we can for our residents and community. Please give us a call directly at 512-988-2970 or stop by the office to speak with our Community Manager.
So I've lived here for a few weeks and it's been one serious problem after another. The main issue is the constant, grating noise. I live on the second floor and asked during multiple tours if there were any noise complaints and was told there were not. That's funny since there are so many problems here that they've had to hire a nighttime mall cop which, of course, hasn't helped anything. Further, I fell in the Medina Highlands parking lot last week getting to my car and suffered a terribly injured leg and a concussion. The doctor told me I needed rest and quiet to recover, but that's been impossible. Between loud video games waking me up at 3 in the morning, people stomping above all night and very early in the morning, except for the days I pay for a hotel to get peace and quiet, I sleep only a few hours. And we do leave to stay in hotels. It's that bad. When my son recorded the upstairs neighbor playing the same three creepy chords on his ill-tuned guitar LOUDLY for hours over the weekend, they said they'd stop it but it went on into Sunday. The same three chords. For hours at a time. The office does nothing to help mitigate this. They knew I worked from home, they knew I'd asked about noise issues on multiple occasions, and they will lie to your face because they're under 60% rented. And once you're in, they will not let you even change apartments without paying $4,000+. And because Texas laws are anti-tenant, there's literally nothing you can do. I can't even bear to unpack because I'm trying to find a third job so I can leave. Nothing even begins to drown out the noise. And another thing--even though smoking is prohibited, every time my ac turns on you can smell cigarette smoke which I'm allergic to. Also the trash rooms get backed up so badly that you can't open the door because of a wall of garbage that attracts flies and smells like death. I toured several places and every one of them was honest about the noise issues. Medina was not. So now I'm a single mom with a kid who hasn't slept through the night and I'm looking for a third job so I can get out of here. If they'll bold face lie to me about the noise, who knows what they'll tell you to get your name on that lease?
Property Manager at Medina Highlands, Responded To This Review
Hi there. We sincerely apologize for the noise inconveniences you're experiencing. Please reach out to our office at (512) 881-8945 so we can schedule a time for you to speak with our Community Manager at greater length regarding your residency. We will strive to make things right.
As a resident of Medina Highlands, I feel compelled to share my experiences with those considering this complex. While I understand that no apartment complex is perfect, the issues I have encountered within a short period warrant serious consideration before signing a lease. Move-in Delay: My scheduled move-in date of August 1, 2023, was pushed to August 21, 2023, despite having paid my deposit and rent in June. Initial Maintenance Problems: Within the first few days of moving in, I faced issues with the toilet not working and foul-smelling water from faucets, which took several days to resolve after submitting a maintenance request. AC Breakdown: On the 6th day of residency, the air conditioning stopped working during the hot summer months in Austin, Texas, leading to discomfort. Despite a maintenance requests, the issue was not resolved promptly. A second request had to be submitted the following day. Security Concerns: On the 9th day, my registered vehicle was stolen due to nonfunctioning entrance gates and unlocked doorways leading from the resident parking garage to the corridor, indicating serious security lapses within the complex. A third-party security company was brought on shortly thereafter. Appliance Malfunctions: Shortly after moving in, the dishwasher and ice machine stopped working, requiring maintenance attention. Inconsistent Unit Numbering: Unit numbers were changed abruptly on October 11, causing administrative inconveniences, and requiring updates to paperwork with various entities. Elevator Outages: Elevators were out of service for weeks within two months of opening, causing inconvenience to residents. Structural Issues: The complex's foundation shifted (no other easily identifiable reason why my door that once fit within the frame no longer fits), causing my bathroom door to no longer fit within the frame, despite multiple maintenance requests, the issue remains unresolved to date. Mail Service Problems: Lack of proper registration with USPS led to no USPS mail service for residents until January 3, 2024, causing inconvenience and delay in receiving mail and packages. Ongoing Maintenance Issues: As of February 18, 2024, the bathroom counter's cabinet door has completely detached at the hinge, indicating ongoing maintenance challenges within the complex. Please note the apartment complex opened August 2023.
