Property Ratings at Matthews Place
I’ve been here since 2021 and we have had 3-4 property management. Every time they change companies they “lose” everything in your file. No move in check lists, no renters liability forms, nothing. They never answer the phone in the office and when you go up to talk to someone you get treated with absolute disrespect. Even the supposed regional representative for the current management company GVA is unprofessional and wildly disrespectful. When I spoke to her about an issue she rolled her eyes and spoke to me like I was scum on the bottom of her shoe. We have renters who have been waiting 2 weeks for their AC to be fixed and a giant limb that is blocking both the handicap ramp and several parking spaces. The limb fell almost 2 weeks ago and there has been no movement made to remove the limb. Moving into this complex has been one of the worst decisions I’ve made!!!
This property and the management team is terrible. You’ll never reach anyone by phone. I haven’t had a washer and dryer for months. Bought my own fridge because my food kept spoiling because they wouldn’t replace it. Won’t honor word to credit account. Management has no empathy and couldn’t care less It’s ok if you have no choice. Be careful of mold
Moving here has been the worst decision I’ve ever made in my life. The employees don’t care how they talk to you or handle situations. They are ROACH infested and they do not tell you. I still have not had the things fixed from my Inventory & Conditions form that I filled out in OCTOBER. They don’t pay their bills so things don’t get done. For example they did not have pest control and did not tell me until I started seeing pest. I can’t open my windows because they don’t have screens or they are damaged and their excuse is they can’t order them at this time due to the size. My washer is broken and they said it was brand new but I have pictures of it from the day I moved in. They came to look at it in November and I still don’t have a new one. And I’ve only been here 3 MONTHS! I should not have to live with roaches. I’ve sent out emails, texts, called, gone up to the office and my apartment is still not habitable. I don’t feel safe or comfortable! I’m so miserable here.
You’ll get the landlord special when it comes to your apt, including bad paint jobs and broken things, and there are roaches EVERYWHERE. The complex is becoming increasingly unsafe, there have been break ins and a shooting in the parking lot and complex this year. The office is never open on the hours listed on the website, and it isn’t the best at getting back to you over concerns.
* Leasing office is everything but organized * They NEVER answer the phone * There’s a random charge or late fee charge every other month * Maintenance is helpful well at least they try to be * Threatened to tow my car because I was supposedly in employee parking (even though there’s NO sign indicating employee parking area) * Never any parking (so if you do decide to move here just make sure you buy a parking spot & know exactly where it is) * One bedroom have stackable W/D you don’t get regular ones like the model they show (only for 2BR) * Noise is really moderate * Not worth what they’re charging honestly & prices are currently going up which is ridiculous
No pest control huge roach infestation not only inside but outside as well
The management here at this apartment is the worst! Paid 75 extra dollars a month to rent a garage. The garage was in a different building. Due to the fact they allow some tenants to rent multiple garages. We never used the garage except to store stuff. Never parked cars there. Are garage door got hit by someone and we were told we had to pay to fix the garage door. Over $1,000 for the door and to have it installed. Said property out here gets damaged too much so now they don't pay for stuff anymore the tenants have to. When I tried to argue with her she told me to hire an attorney. And then hung up on me. Had a major water leak in apartment. Called for emergency maintenance on Tuesday morning at 7:30 they got here Wednesday afternoon at 4:30. No parking at all unless you want to pay for it! Or walk a mile to get to your apartment. This was our first apartment experience and we will never live in another apartment complex. This is absolutely the worst. Would not recommend my worst enemy move here
Do not go by the pictures listed on the websites. The pool is disgusting, the workout room is a joke. The "trash pick up" you pay for and they pick it up like 4 days a week. The office personal are the worst people to deal with. They do not care what so ever about the customer. Once you ink your lease they treat you like you bother them when you have to go in and bring something to you attention. There is no where close to the amount of parking spaces needed, which means that basically scam you into purchasing a covered spot of garage. As a current tenant who can not wait for their lease to be up, just spend a little more money a month to get a place that cares about their tenants. This place is the absolute worst ran and managed place and you will regret signing a lease here.
I don't know if I would recommend anyone because of their new rental prices. But rent is high everywhere. You just have to find what fits your needs and what you're willing to pay for. The only negative thing I would have to say is the parking is not good. Especially when you want to have a few people over. I paid for parking because I get off work late and at night there would be no parking. Other than that I enjoyed my stay.
The location is great. The workout room is nice. My apartment is spacious. The floor boards under the carpet must be ancient, because I can hear my neighbors above me every move. Every morning, I am awakened by the sound of my neighbor getting out of bed and walking to their bathroom. I can hear when they get off the couch/chair in their living room as well. The squeaky sound is horribly loud. The walls are paper thin. I can hear my neighbors doing their business in the bathroom. I can hear their conversations in my living room. It's awful. The parking is horrible. There's never any parking spaces when I get home from work. My refrigerator runs very loud and every time I use my 700 watt microwave, the power gets knocked out in the kitchen (microwaves are not included, byo). You may want to live here for the convenience of location, but that's the best part...don't expect anything more.

I would recommend the apartment community based on location, however, I dislike the kitchen cabinets and bathroom sinks, they look outdated. Also the parking is extremely limited.
My apartment complex is a wonderful place to reside. Its the perfect location for the young adult with a budding career. Easy access to uptown Charlotte and the nightlife is great! My apartment is clean quiet and well kept. It was my first place to call home and I feel it was the best decision.
This place is a great place to live. Great amenities and the staff is very friendly and helpful. They are doing beautiful upgrades to the buildings and close to shopping, uptown and entertainment. I recommend this apartment community to others. Check it out for yourself!
The community is quiet and clean....the apartments are spacious.
I have lived here for approx. 3 years and I love the renovations and changes that the management has done. I have my own garage and a washer/dryer included in my unit. I have truly enjoyed my experience here and I would highly recommend it to some of my friends.
I've lived here for almost a year now. The building I'm in is pretty quiet. I don't hear my neighbors much. I love the space in the kitchen. I actually had to spread my things out to fill the cupboards. Lots of counter space in the bathrooms too. The main thing I don't like here is the parking. I work a lot of nights and when I get home there's no place to park by my building. There are covered spots but you have to pay for those. The staff is very nice and helpful and any time I've had a maintenance issues it's been handled quickly. I'm renewing my lease.
I was in a rush to move but the rent was a good price last year and the community looked nice but this yeAr the rent is a little more pricey rasied about 100 bucks if I sign a new lease so I'm checking my options but overall when I had a problem they came to fix it.
Wonderful place to live and great apartment. Great people atmosphere and aminites.
