Grain farmers working dry land claimed this territory in the late 1800s. The first formal subdivision, the Oak Glen Tract, followed in 1905, and two additional tracts took shape in 1924: the House Heights tract and the Fertile Acres tract, the latter near the current Washington Street and Van Buren intersection. The community's present name traces directly to the Woodcrest Acres subdivisions, the first of which was established in February 1926.

Just four miles away, California Citrus State Historical Park preserves the legacy of the citrus farming era that shaped much of inland Southern California -- a tangible connection to the region's agricultural past that residents can explore on a short afternoon outing.

Dining options have grown alongside Woodcrest's residential footprint, with the most concentrated selection found along Van Buren Boulevard.
