Area Guide
Home to UCLA, Westwood lies on the west side of the city and is considered to be one of Los Angeles’ premier neighborhoods. Bordered by Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Brentwood, and Century City, multimillion dollar homes populate the landscape and students pay a premium to rent near campus.
The university itself serves as a major cultural center for the community, including on-campus attractions (such as the Fowler Museum and the Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden) and university-affiliated venues off-campus (The Hammer Museum, the Geffen Playhouse), as well as the presence of thousands of students and faculty members throughout the neighborhood.
Directly south of campus, Westwood Village is a historic shopping district that features blocks of restaurants and businesses catering to both students and the neighborhood’s larger workforce. Many prominent corporations and law offices are found along Wilshire Boulevard, one of the busiest east-west transit corridors across the city.
With direct access to the 405 Freeway, residents of Westwood live only 6 miles east of Santa Monica Beach and 12 miles west of Downtown LA, making it easy to take advantage of the best that Los Angeles has to offer.
As of May 2026, the average apartment rent in Westwood is $2,082 for a studio, $2,866 for one bedroom, $4,045 for two bedrooms, and $5,976 for three bedrooms. Apartment rent in Westwood has increased by 0.1% in the past year.

As a UCLA undergraduate student, I love that Westwood offers everything I could need—from theatres to grocery stores to salons and restaurants serving cuisines of all types. I would say that products tend to be on the pricier side, but it is LA after all, so it is to be expected. Unfortunately, this definitely extends to the housing prices as well, which is a big issue.

We chose this neighborhood for the safety, the elementary school, and its proximity to everything including freeways.

Great college campus and great nearby shops. However, very expensive living situation in California so beware of apartments.
