South Shore Harbour and Marina - League City, TX Area Guide

South Shore Harbor, in relationship to the Galveston Bay area, has an extensive history. The early inhabitants of this area were a Native American tribe that stemmed from the Karankawa people.

Following the formation of The Galveston Bay and Texas Land Company in 1830 and the defeat of the Mexican Army by the Texans in the Battle of San Jacinto, The Republic of Texas grew rapidly and so did the Bay area.

Texas eventually joined the United States and the Gulf Bay region began to industrialize and capitalize off of resources like cattle, cotton, and oil.

In modern day times, South Shore Harbor hosts annual events like the Crawfish boil in April and the South West International In-water Boat Show on the Marina.

The Butler Longhorn Museum provides background on the animal that helped shape the area’s economy and holds a Western art and artifact collection.

South Shore is a small community so most area residents travel inward to League city or to neighboring Houston for restaurants and entertainment.

You cannot visit Texas without enjoying authentic Tex-Mex food and San Lorenzo Mexican Restaurant and Cantina, located in League City specializes in the cuisine. South Shore residents are less than a mile and a half away from the restaurant and its wide selection of menu items including Chef’s Specials like Carne Asada a la Mexicana or Chimichangas. The restaurant also takes pride in their award-winning margaritas.

The South Shore Grille serves as a community favorite that specializes in Cuban and American cuisine. Armed with a friendly atmosphere, patrons can enjoy popular dishes like the Cuban Fish Tacos, a Grouper based meal topped with the restaurants special Cuban fish sauce. For a heavier dish, try the Prime Rib, which comes accompanied by au jus and a horseradish sauce.

For nightlife, community residents head in town or to larger cities like Houston which is about 25 miles away. Big Texas Dance Hall and Saloon is a popular local night spot located in the neighboring city of Webster, Texas. It not only serves as a Country Western Night Club; it also hosts concerts and even offers dancing lessons.

The main method of transportation in the South Shore Harbour community is via automobiles. Marina members naturally take their boats out for sea excursions.There is no city public transportation that services the area but residents and visitors can opt for a Taxi or Uber service.

A lot of neighborhood activity centers around the Marina which offers a nice location to go for walks. The South Shore Harbour resort offers plenty of free self-parking. The residential sections are equipped with sidewalks providing a safe area for both walking and biking pedestrians.

There are no parks directly in the South Shore neighborhood but residents can visit the Perry Family YMCA in League City which serves as the main park and recreational facility closest to the Harbor. It is well equipped with activities and amenities like power yoga, Taebo, a facility pool, Martial Arts, youth sports programs and a LIVESTRONG program. You do not have to be a member of the YMCA to participate in it’s programs but prices are cheaper for members. They also have youth after school programs available.

The South Shore Harbor Resort does offer many amenities in its fitness center including tennis courts, indoor and outdoor tracks, an aerobic dance studio, and a heated spa. The fitness center also offers a nursery so that parents can enjoy the facility without making outside accommodations. For a more relaxing experience community members can enjoy spa services at the Bella Vita day Spa.

Canongate South Shore Harbour Country Club offers another recreational option in the neighborhood and boasts a 27-hole championship golf course. This exclusive club provides it's members with various benefits such as swimming, fitness, and spa services, dining options, and banquet and wedding venues. They also offer golf lessons.

The cost of living in the South Shore Harbour community can depend on your style of residency. Rental rates average around $915.96 compared to the rest of League City averaging around $1,089.

The cost of getting gas is lower than the national average and you can enjoy a beer at a local bar like Molly's pub for only $3.50 on special nights.

Main street in League City houses a few clothing boutiques that South Shore residents can shop in like the Clotheshorse Boutique, an upscale woman's shop, and Belles and Beaus Children's Consignment.

The closest shopping mall to the South Shore Harbour and Marina neighborhood is Baybrook Mall located less than 30 minutes away (depending on traffic) in Houston, Texas. The mall offers over 170 different stores and restaurants. Anchor stores include Dillard's, Macy's, Sears, and JC Penney. It also has a variety of specialty stores such as Forever 21, Abercrombie & Fitch, and The Children's Place.

The Bay Colony Town Center serves as a local shopping plaza in League City that offers a variety of retail stores including Kohls, Jammin' Sportswear, and Sprint. This multi-purpose town center also has a nail shop, liquor store, and different restaurant options like Chili's and Taco Cabana.

Randall's grocery store services the community along with the Clear Lake Shores Farmers Market.
