George Mason University, named after one of the founding fathers of the United States, is the largest public research university in Virginia. Established in 1972, George Mason University’s Fairfax Campus sits about 20 miles southwest of Washington, DC. GMU’s Fairfax Campus is also the principal center for undergraduate life, consisting of 677 wooded acres. The Fairfax Campus’ prime location allows for a traditional college experience in a beautiful setting as well as the internship and recreational opportunities afforded by a world-class city. There are plenty of apartments available near GMU’s Fairfax Campus. Those frequenting the Volgenau School of Engineering may want to focus their search on the south side of campus, near Braddock Road, while those spending the bulk of their time at the School of Business might prefer to concentrate on properties closer to the north side of campus, near University Drive. GMU is accessible from I-66 and I-495 and provides free shuttle buses to the nearest Metro station in Vienna.
