Considered one of the top research universities in the state, the University of Texas at Dallas began in 1961 as a research arm for Texas Instruments. The campus is located about 18 miles north of Downtown Dallas in Richardson, a fast-growing suburb that is also home to the Telecom Corridor -- companies headquartered here include Ericsson, Cisco Systems, AT&T, and Samsung.
