Founded in 1824 as the first medical institution in the southern United States, the Medical University of South Carolina continues the tradition of excellence in education, research, and patient care. South Carolina’s only academic health science center and the largest non-federal employer in Charleston, MUSC operates a 700-bed medical center including a nationally recognized children’s hospital, South Carolina’s only transplant center, and more.
