One of the oldest universities in the United States and positioned in the heart of an equally historic city, the College of Charleston is a key component of Charleston’s timeless charm as well as a major cultural engine for the community. It is considered one of the top universities in the South, and the School of the Arts, the School of Languages, and the School of Sciences and Mathematics in particular feature some of the most highly regarded programs in the region for their respective fields. The fairly small campus enjoys an ideal location in downtown Charleston, just a block away from King Street and only a short walk from the French Quarter. The nearby bars, restaurants, performance venues, specialty shops, and historic landmarks are far too numerous to name, and folks at C of C are known for taking full advantage of the enviable variety in their off hours. The east side of campus borders a large residential section of town with many rental houses and apartments within walking distance.
