The New York Institute of Technology is a private research university with two campuses in New York, including Old Westbury. NYIT was founded in 1955 and consistently ranks as one of the North's top universities. Located on a picturesque 176-acre campus just minutes from the beaches of the North Shore, students at NYIT enjoy the area's outdoor activities when they aren't in class. Students can do so knowing they are safe -- NYIT-Old Westbury was named one of the country's safest campuses.
With its gorgeous former estates and wooded grounds, NYIT-Old Westbury offers one of the country's most unique campuses. It includes the former C.V. Whitney Estate, as well as estates that used to belong to the Rockefeller Family. The de Seversky Mansion is one of the largest homes in the nation and was built in 1918. This is the center of Long Island's legendary Gold Coast region, considered the second-richest town in the country, just after Palm Beach, Florida. In addition to the Rockefellers and the Vanderbilts, other wealthy New Yorkers with homes here included the Whitneys, the Du Ponts, and the Mortimers.
Renting an apartment near NYIT-Old Westbury won't come cheap -- the area still retains some of its resort-style feel, and as such the average rent is roughly $4,000 a month. But the Gold Coast has it all -- culture, charm, beaches, and parks. Be sure to visit Jones Beach State Park and Boardwalk, Robert Moses State Park, Fire Island National Seashore, the BroadHollow Theater, the Long Island Aquarium, the Nassau County Museum of Art, and Old Westbury Gardens.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
