One of New York State’s major hubs for higher education, the University at Buffalo boasts the largest student enrollment of any public university in New York, as well as the largest state-operated medical school, dental school, business school, and engineering school, plus the only state law school in New York. Located on the northeast corner of the city of Buffalo, UB’s North Campus is mostly surrounded by residential neighborhoods, with several shopping centers and the popular Boulevard Mall just a few blocks away. The city of Buffalo is well known for its college-centric nightlife, and numerous popular districts like the Chippewa Strip, Allentown, and Hertel Avenue are major hotspots on the weekends despite being a bit far removed from the North Campus. The community is full of terrific budget-friendly housing options, and you’ll have no trouble finding an affordable apartment, condo, or rental house near the university; since most of the major administration and classroom buildings are clustered around the center of campus, any of the surrounding neighborhoods will offer equally convenient access for students, faculty, and staff.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
