Johns Hopkins has been on the cutting edge of academic innovation since its founding in 1876, and is regarded as the first true research university in the United States. The quality of education at Johns Hopkins is superb, with many of its major programs consistently ranked among the best in the nation. The Homewood campus now serves as the main academic and administrative branch of the university, and features such cultural landmarks as Homewood House and the Johns Hopkins Archaeological Museum. This is also where you’ll find the Krueger School of Arts and Sciences, the Whiting School of Engineering, and the School of Education. Being near the center of Baltimore, Johns Hopkins is surrounded by tremendous urban resources. With Wyman Park on the western edge of campus and the massive Druid Hill Park just a few blocks away, it’s easy to soak in the tranquility of nature anytime. The Charles Village neighborhood directly south of campus has become a popular hangout in recent years, with beloved hangouts like Ottobar and W.C. Harlan hosting big crowds on the weekends. Downtown Baltimore is due south of campus, and the route is lined with a terrific selection of restaurants, shops, theaters, and galleries. Affordable apartments near campus are plentiful, with the widest availability near the east side of campus.
