With a beautiful campus on the banks of the Mississippi River, a reputation for world-class academic resources, and consistently one of the most dominant athletics programs in America, LSU delivers everything great about a large southern university experience. Tiger Football in particular is a massive part of life for folks in Baton Rouge (and across the state, for that matter), and game day at Death Valley is a spectacle that simply must be experienced to be believed. Being South Louisiana, the food offerings are superb—talk a short walk off-campus to University Seafood and dig into the best shrimp poboy you’ve ever tasted. For nightlife, Baton Rouge has no shortage of bars and clubs, but the legendary Tigerland area near the LSU golf course is a favorite among the college crowd. The neighborhoods on the south side of campus tend to be fairly quiet, while the north end is alive with activity, especially along Highland Road. Apartments, condos, and rental houses are generally quite affordable near LSU, with studios sometime available for as little as $300 per month.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
