As the oldest private university in Georgia, Mercer University was established in 1833. Mercer is a top-tier university, one of only four in the state. The university offers 12 colleges, with the Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics and the Tift College of Education being its most popular. The Mercer Bears participate in NCAA Division I as part of the Southern Conference.
