Area Guide
Located about five miles northwest of San Francisco, nestled along the Richardson Bay, Marin City is a small town next to Oakwood Valley, a destination with the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Despite only encompassing two square miles, Marin City has a vast history stretching from its time as a popular location for wartime shipyard workers in the 1940s, to being one of the homes of legendary hip-hop artist, Tupac Shakur. Today, Marin City combines urban and suburban locales with tree-lined streets, single-family homes resting on rolling hills, modern townhomes, and mid-rise apartments. The Marin Gateway Shopping Center provides residents with a few chain restaurants, a library, a pharmacy, and a big-box department store. For more amenities from restaurants to nightlife spots, residents travel to Sausalito, the town’s neighboring community. Once you find your rental, be sure to go to the Sausalito Art Festival, one of the area’s biggest waterfront celebrations of food, live music, and fine art held every Labor Day weekend. For even more fun, you’ll find locals enjoying the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, which is great for hiking and bicycling.
