The 1867 Train Depot also serves as the Road to Tara Museum, housing many artifacts, including costumes worn by Gone with the Wind actresses Hattie McDaniel (who played Mammy) and Ann Rutherford (who played Careen O’Hara).
Stately Oaks, located off Jodeco Road, was a major landmark used by both northern and southern troops during the Civil War. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is open for both tours and special events. The city of Jonesboro is the setting for the fictitional Tara Plantation featured in Margaret Mitchell's classic Gone With The Wind. Mitchell is said to have conducted extensive research in preparation for writing the book at the 1898 Courthouse, located off of South McDonough Street.
