Stretched along the Mahoning River about three miles northwest of Youngstown, Girard is a family-friendly city with easy access to parks, shops, I-80, and Youngstown State University. It is also home to Lower Girard Lake and Upper Girard Lake. In 1931, two lakes were formed when Squaw Creek was dammed, covering land once used for mining and farming. Upper Girard Lake is wrapped by Price Field, a large park ideal for wildlife viewing.

Girard is home to a downtown shopping district, and it is about four miles from the Eastwood Mall Complex. Other nearby destinations include Wagon Trails Animal Park, Old Avalon Golf Course, and Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport. Lake Erie is 50 miles north, ideal for spending summer days at the beach.
