Fort Riley is home to one of the oldest continuously operating military bases west of the Mississippi River. Located in northeast Kansas, about two hours outside of Kansas City, Fort Riley is very secluded. However, Fort Riley residents have easy access to the city of Manhattan, home to Kansas State University, Flint Hills Discover Center, and several major shopping centers. Fort Riley is adjacent to Milford Lake and Milford Lake State Park, offering campgrounds, swimming beaches, a marina, fishing, and nature trails. Fort Riley offers an array of community parks and an overall family-friendly atmosphere. Area that isn’t used for the military base or residential neighborhoods is made up of sprawling pastoral land.
