Coulwood West lies nine miles northwest of downtown Charlotte, the largest city in North Carolina. Like most of the western Charlotte suburbs, Coulwood West has held onto a rural flavor, with homes for rent that seem like they're in a small town instead of a big city. On Independence Day, the community gets together for an annual Fourth of July celebration, complete with an old-fashioned parade. Since 1962, Coulwood West families have headed for the community pool on Coulwood Drive to cool off in the summer. Coulwood Park makes a great destination for a hike and a picnic, or you can bring your bat and ball to the batting cage and lighted baseball fields. For a special occasion, make reservations at Heirloom to enjoy some of the finest locally sourced farm-to-table cuisine in town, as the 12-course tasting menu changes every day to take advantage of what's fresh.
