Nicknamed the “Farming Capital of California,” Corcoran is a small town surrounded by lush fields of cotton, alfalfa, corn, tomato, and pistachio trees. Situated midway between Fresno and Bakersfield, Corcoran is best known as the site of the California State Prison, which sits at the edge of town and has contained prisoners like Charles Manson, Juan Corona, and Sirhan Sirhan.
Corcoran’s small but thriving community often congregates in the many mom-and-pop shops and restaurants lined up along Whitley Avenue. Shopping opportunities abound in nearby Hanford while options for outdoor recreation are seemingly endless in Sequoia National Park, which is just an hour’s drive from Corcoran. Getting around from Corcoran is simple with access to an Amtrak station as well as Routes 43 and 99.
