A downriver community with New Orleans style

Historic Family-Friendly Good Schools Entertainment Festivals Events

Bordering the Mississippi River between the Lower Ninth Ward and Meraux, Chalmette is a terrific community about five miles from the French Quarter and Downtown New Orleans. This historic community is the location of Chalmette Battlefield, the site of the 1815 Battle of New Orleans, one of the last great battles of the War of 1812. The community was founded by a plantation owner in the mid-1700s.

Chalmette is the seat of St. Bernard Parish and students in the community attend the top-rated St. Bernard Parish School District. With all of the excitement of New Orleans, including Mardis Gras festivities, Chalmette provides plenty of entertainment while being slightly removed from the tourists and nightlife of New Orleans. Residents can visit the historic battlefield to view the historic Malus-Beauregard House and the Chalmette Monument, attend classes at Nunez Community College, enjoy the Crawfish Festival, and shop or dine along West Judge Perez Drive.
