Greenbelt is a scenic suburb ideally positioned at the intersection of multiple major highways, including the Baltimore-Washington Parkway and the Capital Beltway. Close proximity to these highways affords many residents short commutes, in addition to the city’s convenience to top employers like the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, the Department of Agriculture Research Center, and the University of Maryland. Washington, DC and Annapolis and Baltimore, MD are also within commuting distance of Greenbelt.
Despite Greenbelt’s close proximity to several urban centers, the city maintains a distinct suburban vibe. Lush tree-lined streets lead to tranquil parks such as Greenbelt Park, Buddy Attick Lake Park, and Schrom Hills Recreation Center in Greenbelt, where residents can enjoy an array of recreational activities. Shopping opportunities abound at Beltway Plaza Mall, Roosevelt Center, and Greenway Center.

Property Ratings at Lerner University Square
I lived in University Square apartments from June 2021 to June 2022. I waited till I lived in a different apartment before posting this review. Here are my pros and cons and a couple anecdotes to accompany them. Note that my actual score would be more like a 2.7 because if they hadn't towed my cars(even though I was a resident) the score would have been 3.5 at least. Pros: -Maintenance is prompt and very courteous -Front Office is very hospitable -The location is second to none. -Apartment is very Spaciousness in comparison to other properties -No mice...which is a miracle. Story: I personally visited at least 10 different apartments and University square was by far the best choice when spaciousness, quality of interior structure, and overall atmosphere was considered. The greenery and pool won us over. Cons: Old buildings which caused a number of sewage and water issues within the first 2 months of moving in. Towing System: They constantly ran out of parking decals and do not have a good system of protecting their residents from getting towed (see story below). Story: The day of our move in, they did not have the parking decals for our 2 cars. They gave us temporary parking passes that lasted 2 months. Instead of contacting us directly when new permanent decals were available, they sent an email to everyone(apparently a lot of residents did not have permanent decals). They usually ran out of decals within a day or two of of sending the email. It took us 6 months to get a decal but before that happened both my cars were towed because we were 5 days late renewing the temporary parking pass. At $175 per car, we paid $350 to get our cars back even though we were residents. When I told this to the staff, they said, "You gotta stay on top of renewing your pass because you would be more angry if you couldn't find a parking spot." I will let the reader guess what my response was to that.

I’ve been here since May 2022, and have no complaints! The rental office staff and management here are very professional and attentive. Beautiful, quiet area. The maintenance and cleaning crew keep these apts well maintained which is a big plus! Overall, great neighborhood and accessible to the local area/beltways.

Lerner University square is convenient and affordable and is quiet - in a busy area. Khadijah greeted me, explaining the rental process, amenities, options and tenant life. Her enthusiasm and professionalism made for a comfortable meeting. The units undergo continual maintenance and the exteriors stand the test of time. The model for the day was spacious enough for a small family or a single person. The residents and thoseI bumped into provided a friendly “hello”. There is consistent communication from the office. I was notified on my way to tour that the unit of interest was being renovated and would be available to view prior to move-in. I felt a connection with the community as it remains a viable option on the rental list. Definitely check it out!

I LOVE IT! I've been living here since march of 2022 & thus far I have no compliments. The staff is great& WELCOMING. If it's a problem , the maintenance people come & take care of the situation with the quickness. It's no loitering or trash in the hallway which is a plus , so you never feel like your safety isn't at risk. I wish I could give them a 10 star rate.

Moved in a little over a year ago. The process to rent *seemed* easy but we ended up having to get corporate involved to simply complete the process. Main office has been good for the most part but the maintenance is spot. Had to complain to get water damage correctly repair (after 6 months) and ever single one of our cabinets are on an angle b/c they were installed incorrectly. Our upstairs neighbors are constantly blasting loud bass heavy music until midnight and the smell of marijuana is so strong in the hallways we have deterred guests from coming over out of embarrassment. Management says there is nothing they can do about our issues. In all the places I have lived, complaints like these are taken more seriously. Also, their online portal still sends us emails regarding water outages from months ago. Previous reviews are also right about water shut offs. We had no hot water in the middle of winter for about 24 hours. Ended up getting a hotel for the night, just to shower. There are plenty of other units in the area at similar or better prices. Unfortunately, we are stuck here since we had to renew to keep the rent price down. We didn't expect the increase and made the bad decision to stay another year. Instant regret.
If I could give this place a 10 out of 5 I would. They helped me and my wife out in the biggest way. First off, the location is excellent and an absolutely beautiful place to live. We were walking distance from the lake which is gorgeous if you like a scenic area, and there was also a really nice park walking distance from our apartment. Second, we had a big issue where we had to move in a hurry and Portia, Matt, & Delencia at the front office were all AMAZING in helping us move out with almost zero hassle. Highly recommend this place primarily because the staff is FANTASTIC! Thank you guys!
I have lived in this community for 2 years and I must say the staff has been very professional, helpful and courteous from the day I moved in. I enjoy the variety of community events they put together in the leasing office. I like how the office staff has always followed up with me whenever I have questions in regards to my rent. The location of University Square is perfect for me to commute to DC every day. Also I have the convenience of the shopping centers and variety of food eateries nearby. Quiet neighborhood, Great Management team and Great Living. I’m proud to call this place home.
I moved in a little over a week ago and there has been nothing but problems. half of my appliances are not working. I have had to put in numerous work orders just to get someone to come out. The rent here is too high to have to deal with non-working appliances upon moving in. The leasing office staff does not effectively communicate with tenants. I would not recommend this property to someone at this moment. I am very unsatisfied.
This is a very quiet Community I have lived here for 3 years with no issues. The office managment is great in responding to maintance requests and other issues that may occur. This is my very first apartment in the DMV and my experience is great.
My apartment complex is very nice. I love that it has a washer and dryer in the apartment. The area is very quite. It has a nice pool and gym to work out. The rent is pretty reasonable for the area. They are shopping centers and schools near by. The people are friendly and look out for each other. This is a great place to live.
The apartment I currently reside in is nice and big not open but it's a nice size. It has everything I need. The only thing that's a con is that tou can hear your neighbors music and when there in the bathroom but other that that it's not that bad it's actually a good place
Easy access to the Beltway and public metro acces. Size of the apartments are large. Nice wooded quite community. All upgrades apartments. Very safe area to live in. You'll feel at home as soon as you drive down the wooed street. Come check out University Square Apartments your next home.
We have been in this apartment for almost 2 years with very minimal problems. Any maintenance request are usually resolved within 48 hrs. Great walkable area with stores and parks within walking distance.
Pros: Conveient to 295/495. Large rooms and nicely updated. Pet friendly. Cons: Parking is a nightmare (your visitor's car WILL be towed if they are even one spot away from the designated area), constant water shut offs (at least 6 last year). Rent increases of $75/yr. Poor management communication.
Its a nice little neighborhood with plenty of trees and hills, and easy access to the metro. They have an outdoor pool, and a fitness room within 10-15 minutes walking distance. Greenbelt lake is also very close (5 minutes walking) to the pool/fitness center with running/biking trails. I've lived here for 20 years, and they raise the rate nearly every year. The building I live in is right next to a highway, so I can almost always hear the traffic. The maintenance crew is sometimes hard headed and usually late for appointments. It's a good place for a temporary stay, but not for long-term living. Thanks for reading.
Overall I love my apartment,It's very stylish, spacious, & I feel safe in my home. the apartment has secured access which is great because you don't have to worry about a lot of random people coming in and out of the building. My only downside to this place is the cost is a little high compared to all other apartments in the area also the water seems to go out a lot, there's constantly letters under the door or signs on the entry door stating "water will be off today" which can be a hassle because the water would be off for hours at a time. I usually rent places where water is included but stayed here because of the washer and dryer being in the unit. Overall the staff is pretty decent as well as the neighborhood. I would renew my lease again if the rent was less.
I moved to University Squares apartments in Greenbelt in 2009 is now 2015 and counting!! I love it here!!! If you don't have a car public transportation is close by.. The apartments are very nice the people at the rental office are very friendly and helpful.. A beautiful pool a gym to workout.. Friendly neighbors new remodel apartments washer/ dryer in the unit is a perfect place to live.
Where I live is nothing more than peace in a valley...green grass clean air.The property is well kept, diverse community all utilities included washer, dryer and dishwasher, spacious rooms ,wall to wall carpet.Reliable public transportation, shopping center close by .Friendly neighbors and safe environment for me and my girls. Nothing more than a sanctuary of a home ..who can ask for more..University Square Aparments...??
