For college students, Wheaton is ideal. This city is home to Wheaton College, and colleges and universities surround the city -- College of DuPage, Midwestern University, Benedictine University, and North Central College are all minutes away. For commuters, Wheaton is just 26 miles west of Downtown Chicago, and the Metra provides a car-free commuting solution.
Wheaton is a terrific suburban city with several landmarks. The Grand Theater, build in 1925, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Town Square Shopping Center provides an outdoor venue filled with shops and restaurants, and the Cosley Zoo is a great (and free for Wheaton Park District residents) place to spend time, especially with kids. Dating back to 1891, the DuPage County Historical Museum provides a gallery, a library room, and an auditorium.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Lakeside at Wheaton Apartments
I lived at this apartment a year ago and I actually liked it, it is peaceful when school isn't being let out, the tenets are so welcoming and nice. EXCEPT for the fact that the pool is not heated although it states being a "heated" pool, the laundry costs $4 just to wash and another $4 minimum to dry, the key fobs you have to pay for on move in day to the "club house" break so easily (costs $50 or $80 each time to replace it). Don't worry you will dread going to the office if you have a concern or problem if Nancy is there. She will ignore you, make you feel like your bothering her, don't try to send her an email she will pretend she didn't get it, and don't count on her to forward anything to your new property manager when you decide to leave because she wont respond. Don't email her anything eitber she will say she never got anything ( the best thing said to me was the email address i had been emailing for years and getting responses from wasn't working anymore, she proceeded to email me off of it the next week...) That being said the property is beautiful, peaceful, and you are only a 5 minute drive to a strip mall with everything you need from groceries, restaurants, art store, nail shop, movie theatre, bowling alley, and only 15 minutes away from down town napperville. If something needs to be fixed they do it pretty quickly, the other women in the office is absolutely amazing. She always greets you with a smile and is always glad to chat, talk over any concerns you have, and will get things done in a timely fashion without making you feel like your bothering her. All in all i liked it, more geared towards someone in their 30's tho. More on the pricey side as well.

If you want to live in a place where you have property management that is reminiscent of your RA from college, then this is the place for you. The constant passive-aggressive letters the leave on your door, threatening to fine those who do not comply, are simply annoying. Then they have this horrible system of fee's, bills, extra add-on's etc. Forget about getting your security deposit back, they keep that and then charge you more for normal usage in their not so "luxury" apartments. I've rented several places over the years and this was the worst. The lease you sign to move in is close to 50 pages long! Save yourself the headache and rent from an individual.

I lived at Lakeside for about 16 months and I loved it. I had a 1-bedroom apartment that was not renovated. It was a good size and relatively quiet. The location is also great as I could easily walk to parks or ride my bike to nearby restaurants. I would say the only downside was that it only had one AC unit in the living room, so it was difficult to get airflow to the bedroom in the summer months. The pool they have here is the best I’ve had in the 8 apartments I’ve lived in. The property manager changed about 3 times while I was there, but the most recent, Julie, was great. She was always professional when I spoke with her and addressed my concerns right away. I moved out because I found something more cost effective, but I have still been recommending this apartment to my co-workers and friends.

Thank you for the five-star review! It makes our day to know that we made a great impression and we truly appreciate the kind words. We are so happy that you had made our Community your home! Thank you so much!
My sweet home! I have to say that lakeside has exceeded my expectations! From the street side of the apartment, the building looks a little drab. But upon walking around the back, there is a verdant little pond with ducks and other little animals (nothing too wild, relax)! The pond has a bridge that wraps around the pool to the entrance of the pool house (renting center). This center is clean and nice; containing a little gym, a pool, two locker rooms, community computers, and a clubhouse lounge. The lounge is also an office to one of the staff members--All of the staff are wonderful and welcome you to drop in for questions and free wifi and Keurig drinks! The buildings are sectioned into three flats, with four apartments on each floor. This produces a little bit of community and privacy, as there are only a few consistent residents passing through. Residents are diverse in age and background, but we have never had a noise disturbance despite having everything from families to college students. The apartments are small but cozy, and the maintenance staff assist with winterizing the apartments (as all have large sliding doors and a/c units). Utilities stay low, at least for us, it was only another $120 for all utilities, water, natural gas, and various apartment fees thru the winter. The price is right for this apartment complex!
Lakeside Apartment Homes have nice good size apartments with balconys and patios BUT, the rents are very high and on top of rent they nickle and dime you to death monthly for addition costs for water, garbage collection, sewer costs, gas (heat). and pest control. Plus yearly they charge you a $200. amenity charge when you renew your lease!!!!
Found my apartment using apartments.com. After a 48 hour weekend in Chicago searching through 30 plus apartments I looked on apartments.com and found my current place. Really happy not to expensive for Chicago and the website was very easy to navigate.
