About Historic Rushton Senior Apartments
The Rushton is a Senior Apartment Community for households age 55+. Considered South Bend’s first “skyscraper”, The Rushton was built in 1906 and housed real estate agents, clerks, managers, lawyers and teachers in its 35 apartments. Eventually abandoned in the early 2000s, the Rushton has spent the past decade awaiting a new purpose. Secured by Indiana Landmarks in 2005 and purchased by South Bend Heritage in 2012 – The Rushton is shining once again as a prominent fixture of downtown South Bend. Newly renovated in 2013, leasing is now underway for the 23 units which are mix of studio, one and two bedroom units.
Historic Rushton Senior Apartments is an apartment community located in St Joseph County and the 46601 ZIP Code. This area is served by the South Bend Community Sch Corp attendance zone.

West Washington is a historic South Bend neighborhood located right outside of the city’s vibrant downtown. West Washington is mostly residential with a few affordable apartments in renovated brick buildings making up the rental scene, but the eclectic neighborhood holds many of the city’s historical sights. Visit historic architectural sites like the Joseph D. Oliver House called Copshaholm, K. C. DeRhodes House, and the Birdsell Mansion, or find family-friendly museums including the History Museum and the Civil Rights Heritage Center to learn more about the historic neighborhood. Directly east of town, residents can access modern amenities and attractions gathered along Main Street. Also in Downtown South Bend are the many riverfront parks and trails gathered along the Saint Joseph River.
