Matterport customers remain free to publish their 3D tours across websites, listing platforms and digital channels, CoStar Group clarified in a recent open letter.
The clarification is in response to confusion about where clients may post Matterport content.
Customers who purchase Matterport media directly from Matterport retain the ability to share and distribute their tours broadly, including on websites and platforms not owned by CoStar.
“CoStar Group and Matterport are committed to digitizing the world’s real estate and improving the consumer experience,” said CoStar Group CEO Andy Florance.
However, all media created by CoStar Group specifically for use in CoStar Group products remain proprietary to CoStar Group, and may not be posted on competing websites, like Zillow.
This proprietary media includes 3D tours and floor plans that were specifically created for use in CoStar Group products and not pursuant to a customer’s direct agreement with Matterport. These items can be identified by their branding under CoStar Group products other than Matterport. For example, 3D tours created for Apartments.com are labeled as “Presented by Apartments.com.”
Matterport's digital-twin technology is widely used across residential and commercial real estate, hospitality, construction and facilities management, allowing users to create detailed, navigable virtual representations of physical spaces.
